Obituary

Gerard K. Baker, 92, of Nampa and formerly of Hazelton, ID, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012 at his home.

Gerard was born to Ethel K. and Philip J. Baker on November 4, 1919 at Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State College (University) in 1941. He joined the U.S. Army soon thereafter and served during WWII in Europe.

He was employed by Ferry Morse Seed Company at Detroit, Michigan and transferred to Hazelton, Idaho in 1948 and later opened the new warehouse in Hansen, Idaho.

He was a 50 year member of the Hazelton Lions Club as well as a 50 year member of the Masons and Scottish Rite. He was also a President of Idaho Eastern Oregon Seed Association from 1963-1964.

Gerard married Margaret H. Barrett in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1969. On May 28, 1981 he married Patricia A. Barber Makinson.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; son Trevor Makinson and wife Jennifer; daughter Jonica Johnson and husband, Rod; and five grandchildren, Stephanie and Alex Bastow and Madison, Connor and Ellie Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at the Nampa First United Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends at a viewing from 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. prior to the services. A graveside with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
