Obituary

Glenn Hansel Eckman, "Poppie", 91 of Nampa peacefully passed away Wednesday May 15, 2013 in his Nampa home. A rosary and memorial service will be held at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel Tuesday May 21st at 10:30 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.

Glenn was born October 26, 1921 in Battle Mountain, Nevada. He spent his youth in Battle Mountain, Midas, and Eureka, Nevada. He graduated from Eureka County High School in 1940. A World War II veteran, he proudly served in the South Pacific Theater. He was honored with the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his courageous service.

He married Leona Damele Morrison in November 1950 and the couple moved to Nampa where they were members of St. Pauls Parish and enjoyed 47 years of loving marriage. Together they raised their three children. "Poppie" as he was affectionately known by his family and friends, often spoke of what a great joy all of his family were and how very much he loved every one of them.

He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His unselfish approach to life meant always helping those he could, working hard, and never asking for anything in return.

Glenn owned and operated his personal business The Traveling Welder for many years in Nampa until he joined the J.R. Simplot Company from where he retired. He loved gardening, watching the birds in his yard, the natural beauty of wood, stone and the outdoors, especially the Sawtooth National Forest area. A special joy during his Golden years was his dog and dear companion Amigo.

He is survived by his son Sheldon Morrison (Joanie) of Battle Mountain, Nevada, son Randy Eckman (Cindy) of Garden Valley, Idaho, and daughter Glenda Connolly (Bruce) of Nampa, Idaho. He had six grandchildren, Shelley Morrison, Rhonda Morrison, Audra Connolly, Preston Eckman, Aaron Connolly and Jared Eckman (Molly). He had 3 great grandsons, Taylor Morrison, Jaelon Eckman and Kadryn Eckman and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona, his parents Oscar and Nancy Eckman, one sister, three brothers and an infant son Ricky.

The family wishes to thank Legacy Hospice for the tender care they provided and his caregivers from Assisting Hands, Roberta, Mary, Sandy and especially Kris who became a very dear friend to him and the family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to either the Disabled American Veterans or Idaho Catholic Charities.
