Obituary

Gordon Thadeous Stickney was born in Marsing, Idaho on October 24th, 1921; the son of Thad and Alice Stickney. He was one of 4 siblings which include the following in order of birth: his sister Ethel and 2 brothers; Conrad (still living) and Harold. Gordon grew up in the Nampa area and graduated from Nampa high school in 1939. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. Gordon attained the rank of Machinist Mate 1st Class and his commission included his active service on three naval vessels: the cruiser USS Milwaukee, the aircraft carriers USS Bunker Hill and USS Bougainville. He was involved in a number of battles in the Pacific theater. It was during the war, that while on leave, he married Alice Ethel Crill on February 4th, 1943. After the war Gordon and Alice homesteaded in Twin Falls, Idaho. After a number of years they sold the farm and Gordon was hired by Montgomery Wards as a salesman. The family moved from Idaho to California and eventually settled down in Chico, California. Gordons hallmark was that of a tire salesman which included King Dollar service station, Meeks Motors, Courtesy Tires and finally when he started his own business (Stick & Hayes Tires) with a partner. He was affectionately known as Stick and had an extensive following of loyal customers. Stick was a salesman who demonstrated great integrity which fostered trust with his customers. He honored Jesus Christ in his job. Upon retirement Gordon and Alice moved back to Nampa in 1993. Stick drove for Hertz rental cars a number of years, was involved with VFW and joined a bowling team. He had a real zest for life (his motto: Stick Sez Fantastic!) along with a great sense of humor. He created more than 600 scissor bills (goofy looking birds made from old farm tools & rebar). Gordon was a loving husband and father. Every morning he would read his family Bible & pray. On September 4, 2014 he passed away while asleep and is very much alive with Christ and the saints in heaven. He is survived by his wife Alice, three sons: Galen (Long Beach, CA), Alvin (Red Bluff, CA) and Bart (Vancouver, WA) and 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. The graveside service will be on Thursday, September 11th at 9:00 A.M. at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery. The memorial service will then take place at 11:00 A.M. at the Nampa Church of the Brethren, 11030 Orchard Avenue and will be officiated by Pastor John Fillmore.
