'Gussie' Dolores Choat Obituary Dolores Joyce "Gussie" Choat passed away July 11, 2024. She was born August 26, 1934, in Bartley, Nebraska, the oldest child of John and Lois "Pete" Turpin. Gussie attended grade school in Nampa and graduated from Nampa High School in 1952.
Gussie worked at a bank after graduating high school and soon met Robert "Bob" Choat while roller skating at the Roller drome. They were married April 17, 1954. Bob and Gussie then moved into their home on Diamond Street where they raised their children, Kathy and Mike.
While Bob was the salesman, Gussie worked behind the scenes of their Cornwell Tool business as the bookkeeper. Gussie also kept the household running, was part of several ladies clubs and volunteered throughout the community.
Bob and Gussie were avid square and round dancers. She enjoyed the mountains, camping in her earlier years and later at the family cabin in Cascade. She and Bob enjoyed traveling with friends and family - especially time spent at the Oregon Coast.
Gussie was an exceptionally kind and friendly person. She had a way of making those around her feel at ease with a simple smile. Always one to look on the bright side of a situation, Gussie could find the good in anyone and anything.
Gussie was a loving and devoted wife to Bob for 64 years. She was a wonderful mother to Kathy and Mike and a caring grandmother to Kelly and Tyler. She loved spending time with her great grandson, Camden.
Gussie is survived by her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Freeman, children Kathy Hite and Mike (Susan) Choat, grandchildren Kelly (Nick) Fletcher, Tyler (Jules) Beach, Marcie (Chris) Manion and Tom Ivatts, and great grandchildren Camden Fletcher, Olivia and Colton Manion and Greyson Ivatts. Gussie is preceded in death by her parents John and Pete, husband Bob, brother Larry Turpin and son-in-law Greg Hite.
Thank you to the staff at Table Rock Assisted Living and to Lorraine for the loving care they gave Gussie and support they gave her family.
Donations may be made to Global Vision Citadels Ministries (GVCM.org) for the orphanage in Haiti and/or to the Nampa First United Presbyterian Church.
