Obituary

Hazel May Davenport left this earth on Jan. 15, 2016 much the way she lived life~ a fighter, never willing to quit. She didnt want to leave her "kids". Her joy in life was raising her 6 children Dorothy, Darlene, Larry, Jimmy, Terry and Connie. With a love for babies, she commented she would have enjoyed having 6 more. Many great and great-great grandchildren were near and dear to her also. She was born May 10, 1920 to Peter Thomas and Elsie May Alcorn in Wellington, Colorado. She outlived her siblings, Thomas, Glen, Betty and a baby brother who died the day he was born. She passed away from the complications of pneumonia, which had also taken the life of her father when she was 18 years old. Like her mother and husband, she lived to be 95 years old. The Masters voice called her home and the promise of joining her beloved husband, Johnny of almost 74 years, beckoned. She had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior Dec. 26 at the Christian church, a year before they were married. Nampa Mayor Lewis Ord preformed the wedding ceremony April 27, 1939 on the stage of the Adelaide Theater. When asked what the secret was to her long marriage was, she replied, "Ya just gotta love him!" She spent the rest of her life living in Nampa, Idaho devoting herself to raising her family. What a zest for life she had until the very end. How many 95 year old women could be out shooting baskets last summer? Or break a hip at age 83, while playing tennis? Basketball was one of her passions. She relished playing on a Nampa league in her teen years, and she encouraged her children in sports. Taking lessons from Thelma Miller, she learned the art of cake baking and decorating. For several decades she created beautiful wedding cakes. Her first was for her 25th wedding anniversary. From there she went on to design many wedding and birthday cakes for her family and the community. Another of her passions was music, with the piano being her favorite instrument. Her father even scolded her for always going around singing. She had hopes of going on tour again this spring with College Church of the Nazarenes choir GRACE NOTES, of which she had participated in for many years. The family would like to thank the staff at Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa especially Dr. O, Lucy and Jody for their compassion and loving care. She would be delighted if, instead of sending flowers now that she is gone, as she so enjoyed them in life, you would donate in her memory to one of the many charities that she held close to her heart ~ Billy Graham Evangelistic Assoc., Christian Childrens Ranch in Eagle, ID. , Samaritans Purse or St. Judes Childrens Hospital. Hazels immediate family met together for a celebration of her life on Saturday, April 2, 2016.
