Henry Vander Stelt, 93, of Meridian, Idaho, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 6, 2017. He passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family.
Henry was born to Cornelius and Marie Vander Stelt on January 9, 1924 in Lebanon, Iowa. He grew up on a small grain farm and attended a one- room country school until 1937, when, to escape the ravages of the dust bowl, the family sold the farm and moved to Artesia, California. He was enrolled at Bellflower Christian School and attended until he was 16 years old. There he met his lifetime sweetheart, Theressa Teunissen. They were married on February 16, 1945 and remained married for 70 years.
In 1952, they started a small dairy in Spring Valley, California. After 4 years, they moved to San Marcos, California where they lived for 22 years. During that time Henry was very active in the dairy industry, holding positions on several local and statewide boards. He also was one of the original city councilmen for the City of San Marcos, California. He served as an elder in his church and on the board of the local Christian school.
The family moved again in 1978, this time to Kuna, Idaho, where Henry farmed with his sons, Dennis and Henry until retirement. Henry and Theressa enjoyed many years of traveling the world and fishing with friends, children and grandchildren. He also developed his woodworking skills, and blessed his family and church with many beautiful pieces of furniture.
Henry and Theressa were blessed with 4 children: Darwin and (Jane) Vander Stelt, Dennis and (Tracy) Vander Stelt, Henry and (Robin) Vander Stelt, and Bernice and (Bruce) Cooper, 18 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Theressa, grandson Joel, and 3 brothers and 1 sister.
