Iona Mae Cook, 81 of Nampa passed away of natural causes Wednesday July 13, 2011 at a Nampa care center. Ionawas born June 11, 1930 in DeKalb County, Indiana to Phillip and Beulah Brown. Ionaattended school in Indiana. She married Charles Gloy on October 10 of 1947. They had two children Charles Gloy Jr. and Angela Mae Gloy. Iona worked for years as a cook at the Wind River School District of Kinnear, Wyoming. She successfully operated a Diet Center franchise in Riverton Wyoming and also owned apartments that she rented while living there and worked as an admission clerk at the Riverton Memorial Hospital. Her hobbies included ceramics, gardening and cooking. She married Willis Cook on June 11, 1986. She and Willis enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. Ionawas a member of the Nampa First Southern Baptist Church.
Iona is survived by her husband Willis Cook of Nampa, her daughter Angela Miller and husband Marvin of Nampa, grandchildren Aaron Miller of Nampa, Amanda McConnell and husband Kelly of Caldwell, Kimberly Miller of Nampa; grandsons Allen Gloy and Gregg Gloy of Wyoming; great-grandson Damon Gloy, twin great-granddaughter and great-grandson Kyrie and Bryce McConnell, twin great-grandsons Michael and Toby McConnell, and Deneyl Shoemaker of Kemmerer, Wyoming.
Iona is survived by one sister Janie Hons and husband Wayne of Wolcottville, Indiana, and two brothers Jerry Wayne Brown and wife Sharon of Angola, Indiana; and Jim Brown and wife Suzanne of Auburn, Indiana. Ionawas preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Beulah Brown of Indiana, two brothers Philip Brown and Ted Brown of Indiana, a sister Naomi Brown of Indiana and her son Charles Gloy Jr. of Green River Wyoming.
Iona was a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and friend to many. She was one of those people that served people and left her mark in everything she did. She loved her family and friends, and was loved in return.
The family would like to thank those of Exceptional Care Givers, Harrisons Hope Hospice, Dr. Jon-Eric Ballie and the caring staff at Karcher Estates. A special thanks to longtime friends Rev. Don and Carolyn Hayhurst, Pastor Travis Best and other friends and pastors that visited during times of illness.
A viewing will be held Sunday July 17 at 5-7 pm at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Avenue South. A celebration of Ionas life will be held at the Nampa First Southern Baptist Church, 417 Almond Street at 2pm on Monday July 18. A private graveside service will precede at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Services will be under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
