Obituary

Jim Bowcutt, 74, passed away on September 12, 2013, from natural causes. He was born on November 2, 1938, in Logan, Utah, to Beth and Joseph Bowcutt. Jim was raised in this area all of his young life with his older sister Barbara, younger brother Joe, and younger sister Kristie. When Jim was 17 he enlisted in the United States Air Force for 8 years which allowed him to travel, including an assignment in Japan. While stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, he met the love of his life, Linda Shaw. Ironically, some would say, their first date was on April Fools Day in 1960. On that date he told Linda that he was going to marry her and that she might as well get used to the idea. He asked her to marry him on their second date. On September 4, 2013, they celebrated their 53rd Wedding Anniversary. In August 1961, their first son, James (Brad) was born, with their second son Brian coming just 11 months later in July of 1962. They moved to Ogden, Utah in 1967 and their daughter Belinda joined the family. Jim worked very hard to provide for his family. In 1969, Jim and his family moved to the place they would forever call home, Boise, Idaho. Jim was a Manager with the Southland Corporation (the 7-11 Convenience Store Chain) and was responsible for establishing the first stores across Idaho. In 1971, Jim began working for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 20 years of service in 1992. Upon retiring, Jims life really began, staying busy helping others while managing his own business ventures, including a lawn mowing and fencing company. He was an experienced wood craftsman including lovingly building baby cradles for family and friends. A few of his creations were featured in the Orvis Fly Fishing product catalog. He finished his final career as the main laser operator for JB Laser, a small family business that continues today only due to his dedication and hard work ethic. It was not long before JB Laser customers simply became his friends. He enjoyed the social aspect of making deliveries for JB Laser so very much. However, beyond his careers designed to provide financial stability for his family, his favorite job after retirement was running "Grumpy Grandpas Day Care," as his grandchildren fondly called it. He loved and adored each and every one of his grandchildren. Jim had many "adopted" children and grandchildren that were loved equally. He was "Grandpa" to many. Jim was our family patriarch, who along with Linda, hosted so many family gatherings for all holidays and special occasions at their home. Family members and hundreds of friends enjoyed many barbeques and swimming parties in the family pool. His legendary 4th of July parties were undoubtedly his favorite with a fireworks display that could easily be described as a little on the wrong side of the law. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Beth Bowcutt, in-laws Ivan and Freda Shaw, an infant brother Don, an infant granddaughter Gracie, and his adopted father Lawrence (Eddie) Fager. Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Linda, son Brad (Barb) Bowcutt, son Brian (Kseniya) Bowcutt, and daughter, Belinda (Jerry) Hitesman. His daughters-in-law and son-in-law meant the world to him. His pride and joy were his grandchildren; Nick and Chad Bowcutt, Steph (Justin) Santero, Brian Bowcutt II, Brittany (Ryan Schmidt) Bowcutt, Annika Robinson, Todd Hitesman and Raelene (Matt Haggard) Hitesman, two adorable great-grandchildren Halle and Hudson Santero, his sister Barb (Garth) Vest, brother Joe (Rowdy) Bowcutt, sister Kristie Bowcutt, brother-in-law Clyde Shaw, and all his very special and dear nieces and nephews that were like his children.
