Jay Brown Obituary Jay Dean Brown was born on 3 November 1933 in Melba, Idaho in a house in the Glendale area. When Jay Dean was 2 years old the family bought some more acreage to expand their farm. The farm had a very small house, and his parents expanded the house in 1944. Jay helped with the farming from the time he was young. He learned to drive a tractor when he was 8. In his youth Jay helped his brothers build The Cement Barn which would become the much-improved barn, where Jay would milk cows, for all of his farming years. Jay and Omera were married December 18, 1951, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They first lived in the basement house on the Brown farm and eventually they moved to Nampa, where Jay worked for Shields Seed Company and then for Home Dairies. While they were living in Nampa, Jay Dean was stricken with Bulbar Polio which affected his neck, and he has never been able to wear anything tight around his neck since. He was in an iron lung for a time, and able to leave the Iron Lung which was a miracle because most people are never able to leave the iron lung. In 1958, they moved back to Melba with their two little boys, Kerry and Darwin. Jay Dean worked for a Melba farmer Owen Alder on his farm and milked a large dairy herd. As the years passed Jay Dean carefully saved his money and in January of 1962, he and Omera bought and moved into Jays childhood home. Jay would make many improvements on the house and farm during the years they lived there, and three more children would come to them Jimmy, Chad, and Jolene. Jay Dean and Omera have lived many years in the house which Jay Dean first called home at 9 years old. Four generations have lived and worked on the Brown farm which they named "Rocky Ridge Farm". Jay Dean was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He has served faithfully in many aspects. He was also appointed by the Canyon County Commissioners to serve on the Melba Gopher Control Board where he served for 10 years.
He is survived by his 5 children, Kerry (Barbara), Darwin (Diane), Jimmy (Cindy), Chad (Chih Mei) and Jolene, (Tom); 19 Grandchildren; 28 Great Grandchildren and a sister, Sandra Dike Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Omera Leavitt Brown; his grandsons, Derrick and Justin; his parents, Pearl and Alexander "Sandy" Brown; brothers, Elden Brown, Mervin Brown and Wayne Brown and his sisters, Thelma Manus Hill, Beth Stokes Vrooman, and Lois Brown.
