Obituary

Jerry Garland Knox was born August 16, 1941, in Turlock, CA being the oldest of two sons of Buster & 'Betty' (Thompson) Knox. He died at St. Alphonsus, Nampa on 13 Feb. 2011 with his entire family by his side. He went on a wonderful trip that day to begin his life with Jesus Christ our Lord. Jerry went into the US Navy in 1959-1966, just after graduating H. S. He served upon the Ammunition Ship the USS Rainier AE-5, traveling all over the Pacific on 5 month Naval tour. He loved his time in the Service for his Country. Before Jerry even graduated High School, he had fallen in love with Alene (Smith) Knox & they had a happy Christian marriage for almost 49 years, marrying June 1962 in their home town of Turlock, in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. There, they settled into raising their two daughters, Donna (Darlin Doo) & Cheryl (Lil Pee Wee,) who were the apples of his eyes, still to his final day on earth, constantly filling Jerry with much love & happiness. Jerry worked his entire working years for various Plumbing Wholesale Businesses, first all over central CA, and moved to ID the first time in 1979, & returning in 1997. He first retired in 2004 & moved closer to his family in the Boise/Nampa area. In his younger days he loved to fish; mountain hike; go on short trips; BBQs, keeping his yard , etc. And he loved his church of Lutheran Brethren of Nampa, being an active member. Jerry is survived by his wife Alene Knox; 2 daughters Donna (Ralone) Makovsky & Cheryl Knox. He had 4 living grandchildren, Matthew Makovsky (Brandon); Mark (Lacy) Makovsky by Donna & Ralone. Natalie Makovsky; Mac (Jessica) Makovsky; & one deceased granddaughter, Brandy Makovsky who died in 1984, by Cheryl. Jerry is also survived by his 3 great-grand children Brianna; Luke and Levi. He had one special brother in law, Jerry Smith (& wife Kathy) of Modesto CA that he was especially close to. His parents and brother all preceded him in death. Jerry was a quiet, gentle & good man with strong Christian values that is truly loved and he will greatly be missed. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, 10:AM on 16 Feb 2011, at the State of Idaho Veterans Cemetery in Boise. Pastor Harold Tjelta of Lutheran Brethren, Nampa will lead the celebration of Jerrys life & new beginning in heaven. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Seminary Fund at Lutheran Brethren Church in Nampa, 730 W. Roosevelt, Nampa ID 83651 or to your favorite Christian charity so that the Gospel of the Lord may be spread to as many as will hear.
