John Roy Coats, or Roy as he was known to friends and family, went to be with the Lord on the evening of April 14th. He passed away at the age of 74 at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise.
Roy was born in Emmett, ID to Walter and Mary Coats on June 8th 1941. Roy was the second child born to Walter and Mary, having his older sister Dolores and two younger brothers David and Joe. Roy grew up in Emmett attending First Baptist Church, and later Conservative Baptist Church in New Plymouth, ID. It was at church that he would meet his wife Kay King. He attended Hannah grade school, and later would graduate from Emmett High in the spring of 1959. After high school Roy continued to work on the ranch he had worked on since the 8th grade. Roy would move to attend Biola University for a year. Roy then married the love of his life, Kay, on June 15th 1962. The couple moved to attend Biola, but eventually found their way back to the Gem State. Roy and Kay moved back to Boise, ID in 1963. Once in Boise, Roy and Kays brother, Delane King, formed K&C construction. Construction would become Roys lifelong occupation. Whether it was excavation, plumbing, or foundation work, Roy would help create countless homes and businesses in the Treasure Valley and beyond. Roy helped to build numerous homes, the Fred Meyers on Glenwood, and even helped with the foundation of Capital High School. In fact, with his shop so close to Fred Meyers, Roy became quite famous there. Those closest to him would find that they couldnt go anywhere with Roy without running into someone that knew him. Roy also had a passion for classic cars. He could often be found at classic car shows, admiring the gems he could find there. Another of Roys passions was for his family. Ask anyone close to him, and youll hear about his caring heart and generous nature. Roy is survived by his wife Kay, and their three children Shannon, Julie, and Robyn. Roy is also survived by his three siblings Dolores, David and Joe, as well as his ten grandchildren.
