John Regis Nicholson Jr., 90, of Nampa Idaho passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. John was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 11, 1924 to John and Helen Nicholson. He had one brother, Thomas, and one sister, Mary. John graduated from Haverford High school in Philadelphia and then joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. (Air Force) in 1942. He was a Navigator on a B24 during WWII. While stationed at Gowen Field he met his future wife and love of his life, Carol Schey Nicholson. After the war they returned to Philadelphia where he graduated from Drexel University with a Business degree in 1951. John and Carol returned to Idaho in 1960 where he worked for Idaho Transportation Department as a Right-of-Way agent for 23 years before he retired in 1984. John was a 63 year member of the Masonic Order as well as a 32 degree Knights Commander of the Court of Honor Scottish Rite. He was involved with a community patriotic prayer group that was led by his good friend Father Milt Holmes every Saturday for several years. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. John was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Carol Nicholson of Nampa, ID; daughters Linda (David) Nicholson-Skriba of Sun Prairie, WI and Pamela (Wayne) Hamilton of Nampa, ID. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Tara (Erik) Person, Shawnisti (Blake) Stansell, Danielle (Tyrell) Poulton-Rouse, and Josh Hamilton, honorary granddaughter Shayla (Shane) Hutchison, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Nicholson family would like to Thank Grace Assistant Living and XL Hospice for their compassion and care during his final days. John will receive a private military burial at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise on Thursday, January 15, 2015. There will be a celebration of Johns life, family and friends are welcome, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 3:30 pm at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
