Obituary

John Nordby Obituary John C Nordby, 88, passed away at St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, ID on June 29, 2022. He was born to J.Cecil and Hazel R. Nordby of Gooding ID on July 21, 1933. As a youngster John worked for a local farmer, his favorite job being operation of the self-propelled combine. Grain cutting began in July at Glenns Ferry and ended in Richfield just in time for school in the fall. These were wonderful summers for John. John graduated from Gooding High School in May 1951. One of his proudest moments was when he was selected to play his violin for his high school graduation and commencement program. In September of 1951, John left for business college. He worked afternoons and evenings for a local truck line. It was during this time he met June Shaklee and they were married June 17, 1953. The couple eventually settled in Salt Lake City, Utah where John became an accountant for Milne Truck Lines in 1960. Within five years John became chief accountant and would remain with Milne until a life changing decision in 1975, when John and June moved the family to Anchorage Alaska. After working on the Trans Alaska Pipeline John purchased Alaska Realty Tax Service (ARTS) in Anchorage, January 1980. He was owner and CEO of ARTS until his retirement, January 2010. During the years in Alaska, salmon fishing became a family passion. John and June built a lovely chalet on the banks of the Kenai River in 1983 where friends and family gathered from near and far. Wonderful memories were made over the next forty years. In October 1995 John and family suffered the devastating loss of June after a two-year battle against cancer. Its times like this faith and dependence on Jesus the Christ comes to our rescue. He promised us "Blessed are they who mourn for they shall be comforted". The family did, indeed, experience His comfort. Gods blessings continued when John met Merle Larsen of Meridian ID. They married on February 9, 1996. There were many adventures and changes over the next 25 years. They relocated to their new home, affectionately known as The Barn, in Fruitland, ID. There were many wonderful holidays and family gatherings at the Barn. Thanksgivings were especially memorable when John and Merle hosted up to 50 friends and family for the holiday! During these years the Nordbys visited all 50 states in their motorhome. They also established a winter residence in Apache Junction and officially became snowbirds In 2015 Merle was tragically diagnosed with Progressive supranuclear palsy. She passed on to her Heavenly home March 1, 2020. John is survived by his children, Maria J.
