John Taylor Obituary Surrounded by his loving family, John Robert "Bob" Taylor went home to be with Jesus on December 4, 2024, in Nampa, Idaho. Bob was born on October 1, 1947 to Johnnie & Olivia Taylor at Baptist Hospital, Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up as the middle child in a loving family, with his older sister, Lenora, and younger brother, Mendell. As life was in the early 50s, some of Bobs favorite childhood memories include playing baseball every evening with the neighborhood kids on Harwood Drive, and riding the bus as a 10-year-old to go swimming at the YMCA. Bob graduated from Hume-Fogg Technical High School in Nashville, with hopes of working in a machine shop. Shortly after graduation and during the Vietnam War, Bobs younger brother, Mendell signed up for the Air Force. Bob thought that would be a good way to earn money, and was accepted into the Air Force, but then changed his mind. He decided instead that he would go to Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Illinois. It was there that Bob surrendered his life to Jesus and began to live his life as a Christian. He has since expressed gratitude that God changed his life plans. It was also at Bible College, in 1967, when Bob started writing love letters to a farmers daughter in Idaho. Bob proposed to Margaret in January of 1969 and they got married in June of that same year. They set up their first home in Rock Island, Illinois, and at the age of twenty-two, Bob became a foreman for Oscar Meyer & Co., just across the Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa. One of Bobs strongest attributes was how he worked hard to get to the top of any job that was available.
Bob and Margaret moved to Idaho in 1971, and over the course of eight years, they welcomed into their family four sons - Duane, Terry, Marc, and Brian. After moving to Idaho, Bob worked for Champion Motor Homes and Loomix Liquid Feed Co. In 1979, Bob wanted to start and manage his own business, so he opened "The Bedder Place", a water-bed store, in Ontario, Oregon. A couple of years later he sold the store and began building waterbeds and bedroom sets in a manufacturing plant in Emmett, Idaho. Then, following a major fire, he moved United Manufacturing to Nampa. After losing the manufacturing plant to a second fire in 1984, Bob decided to go a different direction and started a new career selling insurance. He opened his own business, Health Insurance Associates, where he worked until his retirement on January 1, 2020. Bob claimed the best day of his life was the day that he became a Christian at 19 years of age. That choice started him down the right path of life, and God has been faithful to Him through all the good and hard times. Bob had a deep love for Grace Bible Church, Grace Christian Academy, and Wesleyan Bible Camp, and supported them financially and actively. He could be counted on to lead the singing, serve on the board, teach a class, operate the sound system, usher, greet the guests, vacuum the floor, or drive the bus. He was happy to help wherever there was a need and did it all with a generous heart and a big smile. Bob enjoyed fishing, pheasant-hunting, golfing, skiing - and was happiest when his truck and boat was filled with his boys and their friends. His family was the joy of his life! Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie & Olivia (Gentry) Taylor, his sister, Lenora (Taylor) Napier, his brother-in-law, Hilton Napier, his brother, Roy Mendell Taylor, a sister-in-law, Joanna Seward, and his father-in-law, Leroy Seward.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Margaret Taylor, and his four sons and daughters-in-law, Duane & Sheila, Terry & Stephanie, Marc & Talisha, and Brian & Jamie. He is also survived by grandchildren: Josh & Ashley Wise, Alex & Makenzie Taylor, Nichole Taylor, Thomas & Brooklyn Branscome, Rasheed & Bridgette Jellouli, Brittney Taylor, Emme Taylor, Addison Taylor, Megan Taylor, Katie Taylor, Jack Taylor, and Lauren Taylor, and two great-grandchildren, Finley & Max Taylor. Other family members Bob is survived by include a sister-in-law, Leslie Taylor, his mother-in-law, Helen Seward, in laws, Kenny & Cristie Seward, Paul & Doris Seward, Keith & Brenda Seward, Quentin & Connie Seward, and numerous nieces and nephews in both the Taylor & Seward families.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the following people: Fran (Home Helpers Idaho) who cared for and helped Bob and Margaret in their home for the last year. Lindsey, Bobs Hospice nurse and the care-team from Horizon Home Health & Hospice. The nurses and caregivers at LuNa Hospice House (Nampa), who cared so tenderly for Bob in the last days of his life. Each of you has been a gift to our family during this difficult time. Thank you! Bob had recently learned that Grace Bible Church will soon be breaking ground on their new church building and was excitedly anticipating the ground-breaking. Bob was passionate about seeing Grace Bible Church build their planned new facility.
