Obituary

Joyce Gentzler Obituary Joyce Elaine Gentzler, 93, went home to Jesus on December 24, 2024. She was born to Vern and Burnadeen Martin on January 31,1931, in Nampa, Idaho, at Samaritan Hospital. She was an only child, until she was 12, when her sister Verna was born. Joyce shared with friends and family that she grew up, and came to know Christ, in a loving Christian home. The family enjoyed playing games in the evening, when she first demonstrated her competitive spirit. A child of a preacher, she was taught by her mother to be a leader and a friend to all of the children of the church. This training served her well, because the rest of her life she served in leadership roles in the womens ministries of the local church and community. Joyce was an interior designer for Home Interiors and Gifts. She won many awards, trips, and beautiful things from her successful business. She also had an insatiable interest in learning. She enrolled at the local community college, and community centers for classes in cake baking, sewing, crochet and knitting, watercolor, ceramics and computer literacy. She enjoyed crafts, flower arranging, interior design, attending and leading Bible studies, collecting beautiful hats, and delighted in going to tea parties dressed to the nines. She also occasionally played piano for church. She was a life-long member of the Church of the Nazarene. We are so thankful for the love and care shown to her by Nampa First Church of the Nazarene during her later years when she was no longer able to travel to the Church. One evening, in the late 1940s, young Joyce was at the local drugstore sitting at the ice cream counter, with her schoolmate. Along came Clyde, a tall, slender young man. He knew her friend and offered to take the girls home. He took Joyces friend home first and then Joyce. The rest as they say is "History." They were married May 5, 1950 (married for 59 years). Two children were born to them, Marty and Elaine. She prayed with her children, counseled them in the way of the Lord, and would stay up into the late hours listening to them pour out their hearts. The family enjoyed vacations to National parks, Amusement parks, and other interesting sights. At home they played board games, card games, and often a rousing game of Rook. Clyde and Joyce enjoyed entertaining, and they often hosted a full house of friends with their families, playing games, and having great fun. In Joyces later years she enjoyed reminiscing about Christmases gone by. Christmas was always marked by beautiful decorations, parties, singing the Christmas carols, reading the Christmas story, baking, and sharing baked goodies. So, it seems appropriate that after a long life, well-lived, she went home to Jesus on the eve of the celebration of His birth. She leaves behind her children, Marty (Rebecca) Gentzler and Elaine (Aaron) Wenning; grandchildren, Wesley Gentzler, Jennifer Zolnier, and Christian Wenning; and many great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edwin Gentzler; and her parents, Vern Wesley Martin and Nona Burnadeen Martin. A Celebration of Life will be held at Central Valley Baptist Church, 600 North Ten Mile Road, Meridian, Idaho on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 10 a.m. Ladies, if you wish, you may wear your favorite hat in honor of Joyces love of hats.
