Julia Villarreal Diaz Ortiz, a beloved mother, grandmother, and master seamstress, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026, at the age of 83. She was surrounded by the love of her family, with her daughter, Maria, by her side. Born in San Miguel de Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, on January 15, 1942, to Pablo Diaz and Paula Villarreal Diaz. She had a sharp sense of humor that kept her family laughing. Her hands created countless wedding dresses. Beyond her work, Julia was known for her love of dancing, a joy for life that never faded as she continued to dance until her final days.
Julia was united in marriage to her husband, Domingo Ortiz, on July 22, 1963, and they remained devoted to one another until his passing on April 18, 1994. She is survived by her three children, Maria Ortiz Ibarra, Martin Ortiz, and Amado Ortiz. Her legacy continues through five generations, including 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings, Sigifredo Diaz, Mario Diaz, Ascension Diaz, and Genoveva Villarreal Diaz Reyes. Her stories will be shared by her family for generations to come.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Nampa Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2026—which would have been Julia’s 84th birthday—with a viewing held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Following the viewing, Julia will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
