Nampa

Karl John Laible, Jr., 91, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away October 13, 2026, in Nampa.

Karl was born December 6, 1934 to Karl John Laible, Sr. and Adeline M. Schwarze Laible. He was baptized at St. Paul's Catholic Church, attended St. Paul's Catholic school, and graduated Nampa High School in 1953. He then started his career with Union Pacific Railroad where he was a yardmaster and a conductor until his retirement.

He met the love of his life, Susan Clark, at the Cattleman's dance in Silver City in 1964 and marrying June 10, 1965, in her hometown of Salinas, California. They returned to Nampa where they started their family.

Karl's greatest enjoyment was his cabin in Silver City, the old post office kitty-corner to the old Idaho Hotel. He bought it in 1963, and it soon became a family mountain retreat. He spent his lifetime renovating the cabin while maintaining the historical appearance. He was a walking encyclopedia of Silver City and the surrounding Owyhee's -taking friends and family on epic all-day excursions. Karls’s children and grandchildren felt Silver was the perfect place to explore and be led by their imaginations. In retirement he also enjoyed traveling with his brother and wife visiting Peru, China and Europe.

Karl was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, served 6 years in the Air National Guard, and was a member of the Elks and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees. He also was a founding member of the Silver City Property Owners Association, helping the homeowners get deeds to the land from the Bureau of Land Management that the historic buildings sit on. Karl was a quiet, thoughtful, and generous man, with a quick dry wit. A mischievous smirk on his face and the faintest of chuckles accompanied his jokes and pranks. His best prank was waking the kids in the bunkroom banging on a tin washtub with a metal spoon. His stories will echo on the porch in Silver City for an eternity.

He is survived by his wife, Susan; brother Raymond Laible (Kathy Korba); children Susan Farmer (Tregg), Elizabeth Barnett (Hollis) and Karl John Laible, III (Katy). He also leaves his beloved grandchildren Aaron and Katie Farmer (Troy Cracroft), Hollis and Avery Barnet, and Kar John V. Addy and Quinn Laible. “Uncle Johnny/Karl” is survived by his nieces and nephews, Terry Hodge, Bob Laible, Karleen Michael, Teri Bentley, Allan Clark, Lori Thornton, Mike and Cathe Fair.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Adeline Laible; Uncle Ernie Schwarze, brother and sister-in-law Robert and Virginia Laible, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Judy Clark, sister-in-law Virginia Fair, and nephews Christopher Laible and Tom Fair.

A rosary will be held October 26th at 7pm at Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Mass will be held October 27th at 10 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. A reception will be held at St. Paul's immediately following burial. Please bring your stories.
