Kathryn “Kathy” Mae
Burns
February 28, 1944 – June 24, 2025
Kathryn "Kathy" Mae Burns, daughter of the late Henry and Maxine Fritz, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, after complications from an infection. She lived in Boise, Idaho. She was born on February 28, 1944, in Fairbanks, Alaska and later moved to the Northwest Oregon area with her family. She attended West Linn High school and graduated in 1962, then went on to attend Northwest Nazarene College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and a minor in physical education. She later went on to earn a Master's in Education from Seattle Pacific University as well as a Masters in Spiritual Formation from Northwest Nazarene University. Kathy married Bill Burns in 1966. She worked as a Christian educator for 45 years at Private Christian High Schools in Idaho and Washington and Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho. "Mrs. Burns" was a beloved cheer coach for over 20 years and led cheer teams at all the high schools where she taught. Kathy also loved being a college dorm resident director at NNU where she made a big impact on many students who knew her. Kathy relished spending time with loved ones such as special close friends and family members, especially her grandchildren. She liked reading, attending concerts, watching football games, listening to gospel music and crafting, knitting and sewing. She treasured the opportunity to go on two trips to China, where her mother was born on the mission field. Throughout the years Kathy loved singing in church choirs and in many trios and singing groups. She performed at weddings, funerals, Youth for Christ rallies and church services.
She is survived by her three children, Kimberly Fillmore (David Fillmore), Jennifer Tupper (Craig Tupper), and Matt Burns (Shanna Holzer), and grandchildren, Kathryn Salsbery (Rollin), Andrew Fillmore (Jenna), Henry Fillmore (MacKenzie), Danielle Tupper, Jordan Tupper, Gloria Tupper, Maddie Burns, Kannon Corbell, and Jaeden Corbell, as well as her great grandson Peter Fillmore.
