LaForrest Twitchell of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011. He was born March 31, 1930, in Shelley, Idaho, to Theodore and Leona Kelley Twitchell. He lived in Idaho, Utah, and California while growing up and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He attended Utah State, Boise Junior College, and the .University of Idaho. After receiving his B.S. in Range Management, he was employed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for 13 years, working in Burley, Idaho, Washington, D.C. and Boise, Idaho. While in Boise, he assisted in setting up the Boise Inter-Agency Fire Center at Gowen Field. After resigning from the BLM he started his own concrete construction company in Salt Lake City, Utah. He retired in 1995. Married to Betty Koskie in 1950, they enjoyed 60 years of marriage. After their retirement they became "snowbirds" spending winters in San Felipe, Baja, Mexico, and summers in Nampa. His greatest enjoyment came exploring the Baja deserts and mountains in a dune buggy which he and son Shawn built together.
Forrest is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Shawn (Vickie) and Mike (Marge) and, two daughters, Jennifer Pedrali and Kerry Gonzales. Also surviving are six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He attended the Southside Blvd. United Methodist Church.
At his request, no services will be held. Memorials may be sent to the Idaho Youth Ranch, the Boise Rescue Mission, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
