Leland (Lee) Guy Atwood, passed away at the age of 85 on October 26, 2026. Lee was born on October 22, 1941, in Warsaw, NY. Lee is deeply missed by his wife, Diane Atwood. He is predeceased by his parents Guy and Bertha Atwood, brother John and sister Marian. He has one surviving brother, Morris.
Lee grew up in Perry, NY with Letchworth State Park as his playground. His faith in Jesus Christ was deep, and he loved serving through his music, singing in choirs and various groups including the Gregory Kunde Chorale. In his later years he picked up his trumpet again and played in church orchestras as well as the Loveland (CO) Concert Band and with New Horizons Band. He greatly loved the outdoors. Sitting in a deer stand, he preferred watching the wildlife as to actually hunting. He’d come home with stories of what he had seen in the woods. The other places where he enjoyed the great outdoors were on a golf course anywhere one could be found, hiking in the Adirondacks or the mountains of Colorado. We enjoyed many walks together up until the past 6 months when his health began to decline and he tired more easily. Lee was quite athletic, enjoying bowling, baseball, volleyball and golfing. He faithfully cheered on the Syracuse Orangemen, the Buffalo Bills and other teams. Lee together with a group of Browncroft Community Church members, was able to take a few short-term mission trips to France to help with the construction of a church camp in the mountains of France. He also served with the US Navy during the Vietnam war.
In celebration of Lee’s life donations can be made in support of Camp of the Peaks, Greater Europe Mission, PO Box 5224, Wheaton, IL 60189.
No funeral service will be held, and his ashes will be spread in the mountains of Idaho at a later date.
