Leopoldo Hernandez was born on January 30, 1937, in La Pryor, Texas, to Jose and Anita Hernandez. He lived in Eagle Pass, Texas until he married at the age of 18 to Ana Maria Salazar in 1955. They moved to Chicago, Illinois that same year where they lived for 16 yrs before moving to Nampa, Idaho in 1971. He passed away on February 24, 2026, from natural causes, at the age of 89. He lived a long and happy life, filled with love for his family, hard work, and the simple joys that brought everyone together.
Leopoldo was a wonderful father and the proud parent of six children—five daughters and one son—who were the center of his world. He showed his love not only through words, but through the time he spent teaching, helping, and being there whenever he was needed.
Always staying busy, Leopoldo found happiness in working on cars, fishing, and tending to his garden. Music was another great passion of his; he loved playing his guitar and singing, often sharing those moments with family and friends. These moments brought smiles, stories, and togetherness to everyone around him.
Some of the most cherished memories will always be the big family get-togethers, where Leopoldo’s joy for life and love for his family were on full display. Those moments of connection, laughter, and togetherness will be remembered and treasured forever.
Leopoldo was preceded in death by his great-great-grandson, Kota Gray Vega; his great-great-granddaughter, Ali Reyes; and his first wife, Ana Maria Hernandez, to whom he was married for nearly 55 years.
Leopoldo Hernandez will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on through his loving family and the many lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Rosa Galvan Hernandez and her six children; and his own six children Delores Guerrero, Alicia Vega, Esmeralda Solis, Leopoldo Hernandez Jr, Graciela Arellano, and Raquel Hernandez and 5 son in laws. He was a proud grandfather who cherished 19 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger sister Maria Louisa Balboa from Yuma, AZ, multiple half- brothers and sisters, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
He will always be remembered as a devoted father, a hardworking man, and the heart of his family.
