Lisle Vincent Young, 99, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 21, 2014. He was born to parents, the Rev. E. D. and Della Young, in their home, near New Market, Iowa, on July 9, 1914. He attended schools in Harper, KS, Bloomington, NE, and Shambaugh, IA. In 1928, when he graduated from 8th grade, he had the highest grade in Page County, IA (valedictorian). He attended Clarinda, IA, high school, and graduated as valedictorian of his class in 1932. He attended Clarinda Junior College from 1932-34, and he earned two degrees, the AB and MA, at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, 1934-37. He taught and served as an administrator in several high schools in Nebraska, was a chemist in Claremore, OK, and for DuPont in St. Paul, MN, during the war, and then moved to Iowa, where he farmed and he and his brother Paul had a farm implement manufacturing company. He moved to Medford, OR, in 1955, where he worked for Padgem Glass before being employed as a counselor for the State of Oregon in the office of Employment Service, until he retired at the end of 1982. He did the training and received his tax preparer's license, receiving it in 1983, plus other post-graduate studies.
He married Clarice A. Brown in 1938 and were later blessed with four children: Harold, Evelyn, Doris and Lee. He learned to play trombone in sixth grade and played in the band during his high school years. He was instrumental in getting the volunteer fire department established in Shambaugh, IA. As a faithful churchman, he has taught Sunday school class, been Sunday school superintendent, board member, treasurer, song leader and sang in men's quartets, was on the board at Bethel College in Mishawaka, IN.
L V is survived by siblings, Nellie Noggles, Alta (Ben) Sumida and Paul (Helen) Young; children Harold (Linda) Young, Evelyn (Hugh) Friberg, Doris (Daniel) Berg, Lee Lais, 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. E. D. Young; wife of 52 years, Clarice; and a nephew Gerald Sumida, and brother-in-law, Clair Noggles.
There will be a public viewing at Nampa Funeral Home from 9:00 to 10:30 AM, and a Memorial Celebration of Life at Nampa First Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, the 27th of May. Interment will be in Medford, Oregon, on May 29th. Memorial contributions can be made to Jesus Film Harvest Partners online at or through Nampa First Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements are being handled by Nampa Funeral Home.
