Obituary

Lyle Horn Obituary Lyle Dwayne Horn, 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 28th, 2024. Lyle was born in Fairview, OK on September 14th, 1942, to Edsel and Thelma Horn. He was the third of six children. At age 9, he moved with his parents and three siblings to Nampa, ID. He attended Nampa public schools, graduating from Nampa High School in 1960. Lyle was on a family vacation in Kansas when he met the love of his life, Maxine Briles, on a blind date that was set up by his cousin. He soon moved to Kansas, where they continued dating for about a year. They married on February 28th, 1964. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this year. After living in Kansas for another year, he was ready to take his new wife and move back to his beloved Idaho. He loved to fish and hunt, and loved the beautiful mountain scenery that Idaho affords. Lyle and Maxine were blessed with two wonderful children, Cindy and Ryan. He was a dedicated husband and father, and a great provider. With him, his family was always #1. Lyle went to work for the Nampa Fire Department in 1969. He served his community for the next 22 years, the last 10 years as a Battalion Chief. He also developed three subdivisions in Nampa over the years and built numerous homes throughout the city. After retiring from the Fire Department, Lyle went to work part-time for Costco for 15 years. He worked at the stores in both Boise and Nampa. It was a great job for him to be able to see his friends, say hi, and draw funny faces on their receipts. Lyle loved the Lord and was an active member of Christian Faith Center in Nampa for more than 35 years. He served on the church board for several years alongside with the late Pastor Duane Buhler. After retiring from Costco, Lyle and Maxine became "snowbirds", spending the winter each year in AZ. As much as they both loved Nampa, the warm AZ sun was a huge draw. After about 10 years of going back and forth, they decided to make AZ their permanent home. Lyle is survived by his wife, Maxine; his daughter, Cindy (Matt) Sullenger; his son, Ryan (Kresta) Horn; his grandchildren, Amanda (Zack) Tracy, Bryan Wilcox, Joe Horn, Sierra Sullenger, Katelyn Sullenger, Lindsey Sullenger; his great grandchildren, Peyton Tracy, MacKaylyn Tracy, Carson Wilcox and Madelyn Wilcox; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Edsel and Thelma Horn, brothers John Horn and Stephen Horn, and grandsons Cameron Horn and Sam Horn. The family wishes to thank all the Aleca Hospice team for the excellent care that they provided Lyle over this past year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Aleca Hospice, 8502 E. Princess Dr. STE 200, Scottsdale, AZ, 85255. A viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Nampa Funeral Home Yraguen Chapel.
