Mabel Ruth (Grindstaff) Sieber passed peacefully into Heaven in the early morning hours of July 7, 2015, nearly 100 years after her birth. She was born in a tent house in Clover, ID (near Buhl), Dec. 22, 1915, to Avra and Charity (Hale) Grindstaff, the 4th of 5 children. Her mother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918, and her father passed in 1931. Mabel lived with and kept house for a couple during her school years and finally lived with her older sisters' families to finish her education at Filer High school. After graduating she worked at the Mountain Bell Telephone Company. She married Daniel Sieber in Twin Falls on Jan. 23, 1938. Mabel and Dan moved from Twin Falls to Nampa in the mid '40s, with their children Sandra and Richard. They were very involved in the Nampa Church of the Brethren. Mabel's homemaking skills were legendary, from sewing clothes without a pattern to setting a hearty table from which no one ever went away hungry. She loved baking and she always had cookies, pies, and cakes on hand. Mabel also kept busy playing pinochle, being a member of the Happy Dozen Ladies' Group, and staying involved with the Julius Circle. In 1950, Mabel and Dan bought a neighborhood grocery store on Yale and called it Sieber's Cash Grocery, where they lived in the attached home and sold untold amounts of penny candy to neighborhood children. She later worked at Nafziger's Men's Store, finishing her professional life as sundries manager at M&W on Holly. She and Dan moved to Boise in the late 70s to be closer to their grandchildren and help their son Richard with his Keystone Pizza restaurants. Although living in Boise, they kept their many Nampa friends. Dan passed away April 6, 1987, and Mabel continued to live in Boise until November of 2006, when she chose to move to Sunnyridge Independent Living. Mother was deeply loved by her family and was an inspiration to all of us. She loved unconditionally. One interesting fact about her life is that after the birth of her son Richard 72 years ago, she never spent a night in a hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters and brothers; her loving husband of 49 years, Dan Sieber; and grandson Matthew Sieber. She is survived by her children, Sandra and David Ahrens of Nampa and Richard and Marne Sieber of Boise; seven grandchildren, Tami Palin, Janell and Chris Martin, Judy and Bob Karrels and Ed and Martha Ahrens, Mark and Lianna Sieber, Casey and Dr. Amaya Basta-Sieber, and Hailey Sieber; also, great-grandchildren, Drs. Audrey and Ben Morrissey, Jonathan and Michael Karrels, Kristin, Karly, Sundar and Kaylyn Ahrens , Erika, Miren, Esti, Andoni and Isana Sieber; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Jordan Morrissey. Mabel's family would like to thank, Debbie, Eileen and the staff at Sunnyridge RCU for their excellent care of Mabel and Mo and Laura of Legacy Hospice. There will be a family graveside service on Friday at 10:00 A.M. July 10, 2015 and a memorial service to follow at a later date.
