Obituary

Martha (Marty) Nelson of Melba, Idaho, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the age of 81. Marty was the epitome of love, giving, compassion, kindness, and family.

Marty was born on December 26, 1942, in Fresno, California. After completing eighth grade, she and her family moved to Idaho, where she graduated from Jerome High School. Following graduation, Marty moved to Melba while attending Links School of Business in Boise, Idaho. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, Daniel (Danny) Nelson. The two were married on November 28, 1962, and together they built a beautiful life and family, raising their three children—Kenneth (Ken) Nelson, Darren Nelson, and Sherry Jo Nelson—on their cherished farm in Melba.

Throughout her life, Marty's dedication to her family, her community, and especially the seniors of Melba knew no bounds. As the program coordinator at the Melba Senior Center, she poured her heart into her work, taking the center to new heights and blessing countless lives with her compassion and leadership. Marty never met a stranger; her humor, warmth, and generous spirit touched everyone she encountered. Her quick wit and love of practical jokes brought laughter wherever she went.

Marty's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and shared His message through her words, actions, and unwavering service to others. She had a gift for helping those around her see the beauty in everyday life—whether it was in her garden, her yard, or the wonders of God's creation.

Of all her many roles, Marty's favorite was being a grandmother—and later, a great-grandmother, lovingly known as "GiGi." She never missed an opportunity to celebrate her grandchildren's milestones, attending every game, recital, and event she could. Her family always knew her unconditional encouragement, pride, and love.

Marty is survived by her siblings; Ada Mae Nelson (Tom), Don Wallen, Robert Minga (Pam), George Minga (Linda). Sons Ken (Geneva) Nelson, Darren Nelson. Grandchildren; Raymond Cornell, Daniel (Melissa) Cornell, Kenneth (Allie) Wells, Kelli (Tyler) Gebauer, Chentell (Korey) England, Dyllan Graham. Great grandchildren, Grace Cornell, Faith Cornell, Rowan Cornell, Waylon Cornell, Jameson Cornell, Joshua Cornell, Jacob Cornell, Joseph Cornell, Jonathan Cornell, Jude Wells, Knox Wells, Kaia Wells, Kinsley Gebauer, Helayna Gebauer, Shaelynn England, Aspen England.

Marty was proceeded in death by her husband Danny Nelson, her daughter Sherry Jo Nelson, sister Mary Sue Gunther (Jim), sister Jo Ann York (Charles), and brother Roy Wallen.

Marty's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to shine through the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
