Obituary

Mary Ann Van Slyke died peacefully at home Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at the age of 99. Rosary Devotions will be recited at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM at the church. An escorted procession to Canyon Hill Cemetery for an Internment Service will follow the Mass.

Mary Ann was born on a farm in Randolph, Nebraska to Othilia and Frank Winkelbauer on June 14, 1926 where she was raised with strong Catholic values with her 10 siblings. Mary Ann attended all 12 years of school at St Frances de Chantel and was taught by the Sisters of St Francis. She went to Mass every day before school and was so thankful to her parents for the education she received. After graduation Mary Ann worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until she married the love of her life Dick Van Slyke. Mary Ann and Dick spent 53 years together until his death in 1998.

Their marriage blessed them with twelve children; Diane Haven (Bruce), Donna Johnston (Gary), Steve, Jennie Schow (Bill), Tim, Anita McGonigle (John), Neil, Mark (Maxine), Tammy Roberts (Scott), Kelly (Jeannie), Ryan, Lea Hyatt (Rod). Always the consummate mother, Mary Ann was Grandma to 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and lived long enough to welcome four great-great grandchildren. Mary Ann and Dick lived in Caldwell for 43 years where their twelve children attended Caldwell schools together throughout their educational years. The family were faithful members of St Mary's Catholic Church. After the children were raised, Mary Ann and Dick moved to Goldcrest Estates in Nampa, Idaho. They became members of St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mary Ann was preceded in death by Dick, her three eldest children, Diane Marie, Donna Joy and Steven Louis as well as five grandchildren: Christopher Van Slyke, Sommar Kramer, Dawn Simpson, Danielle Simpson, and Jeffrey Van Slyke.
