IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
Harvey
October 16, 1933 – October 1, 2012
Mary Ann Harvey, 78, of Nampa, died Monday, October 1, 2012 in a Nampa hospital from complications following colon surgery. She was born October 16, 1933 in Nampa, Idaho to Marie and Tom Dominick. Mary Ann attended elementary school at St Pauls in Nampa and graduated from Nampa High School in 1951.
After High School she worked for a local dentist before marrying Dan Schwalbe on April 20, 1952. They had three children, Sue, Janet and Dan. They loved spending time camping in the hills and boating on Warm Lake with their family and good friends Joyce and Jack Newby. Mary Ann could launch off dock on one ski.
Following Dans untimely death in 1963, Mary Ann went to night school to earn a secretarial degree so she could support her three young children. Her niece Judy Oakland moved in with her in her junior year to help with the children. During the next twenty some years her training led her to jobs at Idaho First National Bank, Fish and Game and the Nampa Employment Office among others.
In 1965 Mary Ann married longtime family friend Tom Harvey. They had two sons together, Rex and then Bruce (who died shortly after birth). She and Tom loved to golf and go dancing at the Elks.
Her zest for life was incredible. Mary Ann loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. She instilled that love of the outdoors in all four of her children. She was a fantastic cook (pickling dills and selling them at the Farmers Market.) and a massage enthusiast she truly believed in the healing power of touch. Mary Ann loved the Arts and was herself a talented artist and accomplished pianist. Her Bridge group of 40+ years was like family to her and she loved them dearly. After retiring she took classes at BSU just for fun. She was an avid reader, a life long learner, and adventurer always eager to try something different or travel somewhere new. Until her COPD slowed her down in 2010 she could run circles around most people half her age.
Mary Anns family meant the world to her. When her parents were alive they would have coffee everyday together. She had a remarkable bond with her mother Marie. Like her mother she was a devout Catholic and spent countless hours volunteering at her church, St Vincents, and at the Nampa Hospital delivering the Eucharist.
Tom, her husband, lovingly took care of her until her death, doing everything for her that was in his power. His gift to her was always putting her first.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband Tom, children Sue Schwalbe, Janet (Jerry) Taylor, Dan Schwalbe and Rex (Terri) Harvey and grandchildren Stacey Taylor Targee, Jeff Taylor, Austin Schwalbe and Autumn Harvey.
