Obituary

Mary Lou Waltman was born on April 15, 1929, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Vernon and Frances (Grouws) Winans. She passed away August 26, 2013, at a local hospital. Her birth certificate reads Marion Louise, but, as a baby, family called her 'Bubbles,' a nickname that friends and family fondly continued throughout her lifetime. Mary Lou's family moved to Nampa in 1936, where she continued her early education and graduated from Nampa Senior High School with the class of 1946. It was at Nampa High that Mary Lou met Richard Waltman, but not by chance. Sometime later she admitted to changing her assigned History class so she could be in the same class as Richard. This bold move by the usually shy Mary Lou began a lifelong romance. After her marriage to Richard on February 1,1947, she ultimately settled into what might have been the most demanding career she could have chosen, raising four boys and always being there for Richard, the love of her life. Family was very important to her. One has only to look at the many pictures on the walls in her home and the numerous photo albums that she faithfully kept throughout the lives of her loved ones to see her devotion. She was a loving and caring big sis to her younger sisters, Jeanie and Frankie and to their families who loved their Aunt Bubbles. Mary Lou was the only one of the three Winans girls who was musically gifted. Along with their mother they all loved to gather around the organ to sing while she played the songs they requested. Her talent was also shown in high school as an accompanist to many musical groups and as a member of the choir. Mary Lou was also well-known for her unique crocheted items, many of which she donated to charitable organizations. The favorite was a cheer-leading couple in their red and blue yarn outfits. Mary Lou loved every dog that was ever in her home and missed them very much when they were no longer with her. Each one was precious to her and she was comforted by their presence. A life-long Lutheran, Mary Lou was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Due to ill health in the past months, she was disappointed to miss the Sunday service. However, this did not deter her from her daily personal prayers. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Richard Waltman, sons Terry of Boise, Michael (Linda) of Milton-Freewater, Oregon, Ramon of Boise and Steven of Nampa; sisters, Jeanne Lewis (companion Jim Varnadoe) of Nampa and Frankie (Irven) Nelson of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren Terry Waltman Jr. (Lisa), Drew Waltman and Michelle Blair; her Goddaughter Mary Jo Sharp of Vale Oregon, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Winans and Frances Winans Clark, and a brother-in-law, Arnie Lewis. Mary Lou's family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Alphonsus Hospital for the care and compassion that was shown for our beloved 'Bubbles' during the time she was there. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. A viewing will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa. An online guest book may be signed at www.nampafuneralhome.com
