Mila Kathleen Mercier

September 10, 1945 - February 2, 2013

Mila K. Mercier was born September 10, 1945 to Cecil & Inez (Downer) Odland in Wadena, Minnesota. She passed away February 2 at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Nampa of complications from a broken hip. Mila moved to Montana from Minnesota with her family in 1948 to the White Sulphur Springs/Neihart area where her father owned & operated a logging business. Her parents divorced in 1951 and Mila spent her younger years alternating between Montana & Minnesota. She primarily attended school in White Sulphur Springs MT but spent her senior year in Neihart MT where she graduated. She met Don Mercier while living in Neihart and they were married in September 1963. They had two sons, Don Jr. 48 of Newburgh, New York and Paul (Lisa) 45 of Nampa, Idaho. Mila and Don moved extensively in the early years of their marriage due to Dons job. To bring and end to all the moving Don took a job with the Montana Power Company as a meter reader in 1970 later advancing to the hydroelectric division. During this time they lived in Thompson Falls, Montana for three years before truly finding a home in Wolf Creek, Montana where they spent 35 years. Mila loved meeting people and visiting so she worked part time as a bartender at different establishments in the Wolf Creek area. Mila and Don both retired at the end of 2002 to spend their retirement time together. About this same time Mila was struck with Alzheimers disease at a tragically young age. In 2010 Mila and Don moved to Nampa to be closer to family & possible care centers for Mila. Mila was able to spend all but her last days at home being cared for by her husband Don. Mila and Don would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in September of this year. Mila was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers. Mila is survived by her husband and two sons, two sisters Lola Rosenbaum and Berta Trimble both of Minnesota and a brother Cecil (Chuck) Odland of Polson Montana, three grandsons Andrew, Matthew and Cal. There are numerous nieces & nephews. Mila was a fun loving person who loved to dance and above all else loved life itself. She leaves behind many friends and most who met her could not help but love her. An open house and celebration of Milas life will be held at the familys home 11660 W Flamingo Ave Nampa ID 83651 from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday Feb 16. Cremation is under the direction of Nampa Funeral Home.
