Obituary

Montgomery Gene Monty Ellis of Meridian, beloved Brother, Son, Uncle, and Friend, passed away at a local hospital on Monday, January 12, 2015, at the age of 47. A service to honor his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at the Nampa First United Methodist Church, 2717 12th Ave. Rd., Nampa, ID. Monty was born in Nampa, Idaho on January 5, 1968, to Ron and Garnet Ellis. He was raised on the family farm with his two older sisters, Cindy and Kim, and went to the old Greenhurst and Southside schools. Monty, along with his siblings, worked on the farm topping and picking corn. Growing up, Monty loved hanging out with his friends, playing baseball, riding his bike, wrestling, and counting down the days until his parents went to Pahrump when he could throw his parties. He always loved having a good time and was the life of the party. He graduated from Nampa High School in 1986 and attended BSU. During his life he held many jobs in the finance, banking, and insurance fields. He considered himself an expert in all things financial and was always quick to offer advice. In 1991, he married Lori Marz and they spent 17 happy years together, remaining close friends. During their marriage they moved several times, flipping homes until Monty settled in Meridian. Monty enjoyed riding motorcycles, photography, weight lifting, 80s music, and dancing. He was also an avid firearm collector. He was devoted to his dogs, Mickey and Rusty. They would often accompany him on rides to visit family. Monty was a loving and kind person, who enjoyed giving giant bear hugs and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was fun to tease and quick to blush when asked about his love life. He had a group of lifelong friends who were always very loyal and devoted, standing by his side until the end. He will be remembered for his happy spirit and his love of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kim Ellis, his parents, Ron and Garnet Ellis, his uncles, and his grandparents. He is survived by his sister, Cindy (Greg) Moss, nieces Jennifer (Ben) Patchett, Katie Vargas, Linsi Vargas, and Heidi Vargas, great nephews Jake and Daniel Patchett, great neice Brooklyn Patchett, aunt Georgia (Jay) Eells, numerous cousins, and many close friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Stroke Association. Arrangements are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.
