Nellie May Noggles, 98 of Nampa, died Tuesday March 31, 2015
She was born November 10, 1916 to the late Reverend E.D. Young and Della Edmonds Young in New Market, Iowa. Nellie graduated from High School in Clarinda Iowa and from college at the University of Nebraska in 1940.
She taught in several public schools in Kansas and Nebraska before the door opened for her to serve with the United Missionary Church as a missionary in Nigeria. David Mann, current Missions Director says, "What an important role the missionaries of that era played in the development of the ministry that now exists in that country. The seeds they planted have resulted in over 1,000 churches." She contracted malaria which cut short her days in Nigeria she returned home in 1949. Nellie spoke often and fondly of her Africa time.
Nellie attended Western Washington College of Education and upgraded her credentials after which a teaching position opened to her in the Selah School District. She was a dedicated teacher and taught elementary school and special needs students. She had an unwavering belief in her students and taught them to believe in themselves. Nellie earned the respect of her fellow teachers and school administrators.
Nellies nieces and nephews have fond memories when she came visiting she had stories and gifts! She had no children of her own so her nieces and nephews became her "kids."
She was married to D. Clair Noggles on June 20th, 1958. They lived in Walla Walla, Washington and Medford, Oregon until his death August 30, 1994.
Nellie was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene while living in Walla Walla, Medford, & Nampa, Idaho. She had a wide range of interests and activities including the domestic arts, travel, camping, music and choir. She was an occasional rock hound and liked to go to a county fair or to a regional rodeo.
Nellie is survived by her brother Paul E. Young of Stanwood, WA and her brother-in-law Ben Sumida of Billings, Wyoming. Her brother Lisle Young and sister Alta Sumida preceded her in death within the last eleven months. She is survived by ten living nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Burial has already occurred beside her husband in Medford, Oregon.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the Nampa Kindred Nursing and rehabilitation staff for their exemplary care for Nellie during the last months of her life.
