IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nina
Harbig
February 4, 1918 – December 15, 2012
Nina Harbig, 94, of Nampa passed away into the arms of the Lord Saturday, December 15, 2012 at her daughters home.
She was born February 4, 1918, the 12th of 13 children, to John and Corda Simmons near Raymond, Kansas. At age 2, her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she graduated from high school. After graduation, she worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in the Goodyear airplane factory. She met Arnold Harbig, who was stationed at Luke Air Field near Phoenix during WWII. They were married on Easter Sunday, April 24, 1943. She always made note of the fact that their anniversary never occurred on an Easter Sunday in all their years together. After Arnolds discharge from the service, they returned to his home in Idaho, where they farmed for several years, eventually relocating to Nampa. Later, Mom was a cook at Samaritan Hospital, and then worked 15 years for Carnation Potato Plant before retiring in 1980.
Arnold and Nina had four children. Janet Lueck of Nampa, Glenn Harbig (Renee) of Tamarack, Elaine (Noel) McElhany of Winnemucca, NV, and Marilyn (Forrest) Griggs of Nampa. Moms nine grandchildren include Tim (JoAnne) Birt , Kristine (William) French, Chad (Julie) Harbig, Tara (Kevin) Mishler, Cole Harbig, Michael (McKenzie) Shier, Joel Shier, Marc (Tammy) McLean, and Michael McLean. She also has seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings. Her husband of nearly 65 years passed away in 2008. She missed him dearly every day since his passing.
Mom never met a stranger. She was able to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. Her bright blue eyes, warm smile, and quick laugh made everyone feel loved and special.
Although others have made the claim, our Mom truly did make the worlds best fried chicken; and the worlds best cinnamon rolls; and the worlds best peach cobbler.
Mom loved to embroider and crochet. She has made numerous afghans for every member of her family. She often joked that all the yarn she used could reach to the moon and back.
Mom endured the effects of cancer, but was growing tired. She was ready to go home. The family would like to thank Harrisons Hope Hospice for their care and support.
We love you and miss you Mom. Give Dad a hug and kiss.
