Norman D. 'Bill' Webb Obituary Norman D. "Bill" Webb
He Never Met a Stranger
Norman D. "Bill" Webb passed away on April 21, 2024, at Autumn Breeze Assisted Living in Buhl, ID at the age of 95.
Bill was born on November 3, 1928, in Castleford, Id to Lulu Bunch Webb & Doyle W. Webb. He grew up playing sports & knew everyone in their small community. He graduated in 1947. Bill farmed and worked in construction until he joined the Air Force in 1951.
In 1957 Bill became a partner in Electric Pump Co. in Twin Falls, ID. He sold his share in 1962 and moved to Nampa, ID in January of 1963 to manage Layne Pumps for The Singer Company. This was at a time when a lot of sagebrush land was being cleared & brought into the irrigation picture. "The Boom Years." Bill & two partners, Ron Yanke and John Jantz, bought the company in 1975, which he then managed under the name "Layne of Idaho, Inc. until his retirement in 1997. Bill enjoyed his work with the valley farmers & could tell you where every pump was located, how deep it was, what horsepower motor, and how much water it pumped. He always had time to talk with the farmers. He loved to visit and was well known for his gift of gab, and many unique sayings.
Hunting, fishing, camping, and raising and working his Brittany & Vizsla hunting dogs gave him many hours of pleasure. In his retirement, his "Bird Sanctuary" or "Briar Patch" of blackberries plants, occupied many hours. His arms had the marks to prove that thorns were there. He fed Pheasants, Quail, Doves & Duck & fought with his hated bird, the magpie.
Bill loved BSU football games, especially tailgating, BSU Basketball, & traveling with Pat all over the world. The highlight of EVERY morning was coffee at 2nd Street Deli & Sunrise Cafe, solving the World Problems with his friends.
He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited & a lifetime member of the Nampa Elks #1389. He was Elk of the Year in 1981, a trustee for 5 years and had just renewed his membership for his 66th year. He was a charter member of Nampa Civic Center Auxiliary & lifetime member of the Nampa Rec. Center.
Bill married Patricia Turner on Aug. 8, 1959, in Twin Falls, ID. They had 3 children. Family meant the world to Bill, and he loved to fish, camp & snowmobile with the kids and later on with the grandsons. Teaching the grandsons the ways of Life was his calling.
Bill & Pat loved to travel and went all over the world. China & the Yangtze River with the 3 Gorges Dam project was his favorite trip. An African Safari was an eye opener. No matter where they traveled, he enjoyed life and made new friends.
Pat passed in 2005 and he missed her dearly. In Dec 2006 he married a classmate from Castleford, Ila LaGrone. They enjoyed many years of traveling and visiting family in California and Oregon. They especially liked any musical presentation and went from Twin Falls to Boise to attend them with friends & family. They divided time between Nampa & Castleford to enjoy all their friends.
Bill is survived by his wife Ila, daughter Kathy (Galen) Abel, son Mike (Maureen) Webb, step-son Rex(Kathy) LaGrone, step-daughter Rene(John) Williams, Grandsons Jason(Gina) Abel & Jeremy(Annie) Abel, Eight great grandchildren and Two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat, 3 brothers, Roy, Charles and Bud and his son Douglas.
A recent highlight for Dad was being presented a certificate and challenge coin for his service in the Air Force by Heritage Home Health Hospice.
We want to especially thank Joe & Lenora Turner for their constant visits and care of Dad. He enjoyed seeing all the family pictures Lenora found. We also appreciate the loving care given to Dad by Autumn Breeze and Heritage Home Health Hospice.
