Opal Belle Dillon Powell was born January 26, 1921 in Burr Oak Kansas. She graduated from Burr Oak High School. She married Dave Powell December 24, 1940 in Nampa, Idaho. They made their home in Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, but of course not all at the same time.
Over the years Opal did secretarial work for schools and churches. She always became an active and vital member of their local Church of the Nazarene. She also held various offices in the Nazarene churches where they attended. Opal and Dave spent their retirement years in Walla Walla, and Brinnon, Washington, finally returning to Nampa in 1986. Once again they became active in their church including Opals participation in the Grace Notes choir for those 55 and over.
When the family met for their annual week long HallowThanksChristmasNewDay, Opal could be found whomping the younger folk in Scrabble. In fact she was playing Scrabble the night before her final illness.
In 2006, eight years after the death of her husband Dave, Opal moved to Sunny Ridge Retirement Center where she took advantage of their many activities.
Opal is survived by her daughters Sharon and her husband Dean Pearl of Quincy, WA and Pam and her husband Dave Mangum of Nampa, ID; Granddaughter Sherri and her husband Keith Kooy of Quincy, WA; Grandson David Alcyon and his wife Leah of Seattle, WA; Great grandchildren Kelly and her husband Robb Escue of Redmond, WA and Michael Kooy of Quincy, WA.
