Paul Joseph "Bud" Schuler, 87, passed away March 5, 2012 at a retirement center in Meridian. He was born February 27, 1925 in New Plymouth Idaho to Alloys and Clara Schuler. He was the 7th of 12 children.
Bud was raised in Nampa, attending St. Pauls school, and graduating from Nampa High in 1943. After graduation, he attempted to join the army, but he was not accepted due to his working on the family farm and some medical issues. He worked in the dairy industry for his entire working life.
He married Madeleine Van Wassenhove on April 6, 1953. They had 6 children Teri Johnson, Ann Archuleta (deceased), Bob (Vickie) Schuler, Michelle Corbell, Mike (Debbie) Schuler, and Ray Schuler. This union lasted 24 years until her death in 1977.
They bought the homestead in 1954 and he would live there his entire life until moving into assisted living in early 2008.
Growing up on a dairy farm equated to hard work and sacrifices. He was involved in FFA and 4 H during his school years. He would later be a 4H leader for many years. He showed cattle for many years at the Western Idaho Fair and always enjoyed watching the judging.
He had a true love for all sports, but never was able to participate due to his farm duties. He was a volunteer with the Nampa American Legion Baseball for over 20 years, assisting with the field preparation, advertisement selling, and assisting umpires as needed. He loved watching all sports; if his children or grandchildren were playing, that was just a bonus.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years and was a 4th degree member. Participating in the Honor Guard was a privilege.
Bowling was the one sport he actively participated in for over 50 years. After his knees would not allow him to bowl, his group turned to pinochle games at the bowling alley. He loved competing.
He met Shirley Keen in 1984 and their relationship was one that he cherished.
Besides his children, he is survived by 4 sisters - Dorothy Vauk, Ann Anderle, Helen Chadez, and Sister Chanelle Schuler, 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren
