Obituary

Preston Levon Pierce, 76, passed away February 27, 2017 at his home in Nampa, Idaho surrounded by family. The viewing will be held on Sunday March 5th, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 pm and funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday March 6th, 2017 at Nampa Funeral home in Nampa, Idaho. Preston was born November 24, 1940 to Harry Pierce and Sara Lucille South Pierce in Mobile, Alabama. As a young child he moved to various port locations in the southern and eastern United States due to his father working in shipyards during World War II. He joined the airforce at seventeen years of age. He served four years as a cook along with various other duties and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was stationed at (SAC) Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska where he met his first wife and had four children Lucy, Lori, Jack and Bill. After the being honorably discharged he pursued his lifelong dream of driving bus. He started by driving city bus then transitioned to driving charter bus in which he enjoyed many years of adventures. A few of those adventures included driving high profile musicians, movie stars and NASCAR drivers. Preston always enjoyed sharing these stories with enthralled family and friends. Preston carried on his tradition of cooking for the air force to cooking for family and friends, an activity that he loved. He briefly opened a bar and grill and developed his own steak sauce. In later years Preston moved to Nampa, Idaho to be with his family. He enjoyed traveling with his daughter Lori and family. Some of his travels included purchasing an Airstream trailer for an epic adventure of driving cross country to visit relatives in Omaha and Alabama and coming back through the southern states. He took many shorter trips with family that included Jackpot, the Oregon coast and Montana. Anyone who knew Preston knew of his love for the lottery, slot machines and scratch tickets. One of his happiest moments was winning the big Wild Card Jackpot the day after promising his beloved grand-daughter in law that he would help her build her groom shop and by golly he did. He was a very generous man and genuinely gave all he had to give without a second thought. He loved all of his family deeply and especially the little children. One of his greatest joys in life was helping to care for and spend time with his little love Aubree. Some knew him by his given name of Preston. His family and close friends called him Lonnie. A lot of people knew him only as Grandpa. His most precious called him Papa. Everyone knew him as love. Rest in peace Grandpa and always know that you will be in our hearts and minds forever, until we are all together again. Preston is survived by his brother Leonard (Bud) D. Pierce of Mobile, Alabama; his children Lucille Marie Prince (Verl) of Nampa, Idaho, Lori Beth Hibberd of Nampa, Idaho, Jack Richard James of Boise, Idaho and William Joseph James (Lois) of Nampa, Idaho; his 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, with special mention of his grandson Robert Jack Hibberd and wife Stefanie and their daughter Aubree (his little love) with whom he lived along with his daughter Lori. Also a special mention of his grandson Kenneth Lee Hibberd and his wife Kirsten and their children Jasmine, Sierra (his travel buddy) and Hannah; he appreciated his many visits from his grand daughter Rebecca Lynn Ferguson as well; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews for which he cared deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Sara Lucille Pierce; his six brothers Harry, Hardy, George, Mobley, Johnny and Ernest Pierce and infant sister Eloise Pierce.
