Obituary

Richard Hellwege Obituary Rich Hellwege went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 11, 2023. At his side was his loving wife. Undoubtedly, we had all wanted more time with our brother, dad, grandpa, family member and friend, but we find comfort knowing that Rich is now with his Heavenly Father. First of all a son and a brother, Richard Herbert Hellwege was born on March 5, 1950, to Herbert and Thelma Hellwege (both preceded in death) in Nampa, Idaho. He was the middle child with two older sisters (Caroline - preceded in death, and Georgia) and two younger brothers (Don and Jim). Rich grew up in Nampa, attending Nampa schools and graduating from Nampa high school in 1968. Soon after, Rich met the love of his life. Merry (Meyer) and Rich got married on December 30, 1971. Rich, next became a father to the first of his four sons five years later. Josh (Spouse Chelsey) was soon followed by Ryan (Spouse Lori) who was then soon followed by Andrew (Spouse Tracy) and 11 years later was followed by Peter (Spouse Shanan). Rich was also grandpa to 10 grandchildren. Rich enjoyed life and had many interests and passions. He was gifted in so many areas but truly shined in the area of woodworking. His creative artistry became a great source of pride and enjoyment for Rich throughout much of his life. Rich also had a gift of hospitality and truly understood the importance food and gathering had in life. His passion for barbecue was matched only by his desire to connect with family and friends. Rich truly loved the outdoors. Whether it was working for the National Forest Service, pouring his time and energy into his beloved farm, fishing, camping or just going for a drive, Rich found solace being outside. Rich loved sports. From his own time as a star athlete through the years watching his boys play, sports were a big part of Richs life. Although Rich had many talents and was passionate about many different areas of life, the most important thing to him and what he will be remembered for most was the value he placed on relationships. He loved the Lord, loved his family and loved others. In return, he was loved by and will be missed by so many.
