Nampa

Richard “Rick” Thomas Hogaboam tragically, suddenly passed away from a rare condition called cardiac tampenade, while serving as Mayor of Nampa, at a public speaking engagement in Eagle, Idaho on March 18, 2026. A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the Ford Idaho Center, 16200 Idaho Center Blvd in Nampa on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 5 PM.

Rick was born in Torrance, California, December 27, 1978, to Tom Hogaboam and Michong Chong. He was raised in Southern California by his father. He graduated from El Segundo High School where he excelled in baseball. He attended a small college in McPherson, Kansas, Central Christian College, anticipating pursuit of professional baseball. He had dreams of playing professional baseball for the Angels but answered the call to pursue Christian ministry. He obtained a Bachelor of Theology at The King’s College, and later, a Master of Public Administration from Corban University. He was also an Acton Institute Fellow. He married the love of his life on January 12, 2002. Together, they built a family of five (living) beautiful and smart children. Their life journey included Rick serving as a pastor in Marion, New York, where he became a fan of the Buffalo Bills. From New York, the family moved to Nampa, Idaho, where Rick was the senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Fellowship for 11 years until becoming the Chief of Staff for the Mayor of Nampa. Prior to that, he served two years on the Nampa City Council. Rick was later appointed as the Canyon County Clerk and then was elected to that position, which he held until being elected as Mayor of his beloved city, Nampa. Rick advocated for the pro-life movement, supporting the cause in many ways, including as the Executive Director of Lifeline Ministry in Nampa. Rick held many titles throughout his life: Pastor, Chief of Staff, Mr. Clerk, Councilman, Mayor, counselor, scholar, coach, and friend to anyone with whom he ever visited. He could and would talk about Jesus - His savior, politics, budgets, baseball, or almost any subject that was of interest. He was a man of deep intellect, known for his love of Jesus and other people. He was firm in his convictions and somehow presented such without making enemies. His involvement in non-profit work and Christian ministries was numerous. His hobbies included lots of reading, sports, eating, politics and discussing Bible theology.

Rick Hogaboam is survived by his parents, Thomas Norman Hogaboam, of Nampa, and Michong Chong, born in South Korea, now of Reno, Nevada. Siblings- Tommy Hogaboam, Lori Carr, David Williams, Aaron Williams, Kelly Miles. His wife, Mimi and five children- Cody, Kira, Lexi, Ezra, Zoey, and granddaughter - Iris. He was a beloved son, husband, father, uncle, pastor, leader, servant, and friend. His place is assured in Heaven. His family grieves, but not as those whohave no hope.

Any desired charitable contribution can be made to Lifeline Pregnancy Resource Center, 1323 12th Ave S. Nampa, Idaho, 83651 in Rick's honor.
