Obituary

Robert Croy Obituary Robert was born in Boise, ID on May 19, 1929 to Wesley Croy and Margaret McNulty. He grew up in Nampa, ID and attended St. Pauls Catholic School and Nampa High School. He spent his childhood swimming in canals hanging out with his friends, Frank Beamon, Bus Park, and Gene Ihli. After high school and a year of community college, his love of learning sent him to the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID, where graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Bob would remark about U of I that "Wait, they flunk people here!" This set about an academic diligence and lifelong zest for learning. Robert received a masters degree in chemistry from the University of Minnesota. University of Minnesota Professor Cooke helped Bob get an early job. He later moved to Golden, CO and received a masters degree in Metallurgy from the Colorado School of Mines. It was here in Golden that he met Darlene Petersen on a blind date. They married in 1960 and a year later, "Kathy" was born. They moved to California for a while where he attended Stanford University and "Beth" was born. In 1965, they returned to Colorado to support Darlenes mother, Ruth who had lost her husband. Bob was hired at IBM near Boulder, CO and they built a house in Table Mesa. Here they lived for 25 years with grandma, Ruth and their children, welcoming baby "Brian" soon after the move. Bob was well liked at work and spent most evenings reading chemistry books on the back deck while smoking his cigar. He was a skilled chemist, but his vocational passion was the field of mining. Bob liked to take his family on vacations in the Rocky Mountains where they would explore mining towns and pan for gold. Bob was a loving husband, father, and unselfish provider. In Boulder, Bob and Darlene were active members of St. Martin de Porres Church. They served as ministers of the eucharist and held strong in their faith throughout their lives together. After retiring from IBM, Bob worked for the Denver Water Department. But soon Bob was ready to escape snow shoveling and move to warmer pastures. So, Darlene and Bob retired to St. George, UT in the 1990s. Here Bob and Darlene continued to be active parishioners at St. George Catholic Church and enjoyed year-round sunshine. Still an avid student, Bob expanded his reading interests to religion, politics, and other social issues. He took some courses at Dixie College and even taught a few lab courses there. He enjoyed "R&R" trips to Las Vegas where he would play the slot machines and meet up with friends and family. Words that describe Bobs character might include wise, curious, introspective, disciplined, unselfish, patient, honorable, strong, honest, loving and kind, funny and slow to judge. He did not instigate social encounters, but his smile and open mind was inviting and made him easy to love. His gentle, warm loving spirit live on while his weary body is now at rest. He was preceded in death by his siblings, brothers, Leonard and Harold Croy of Nampa; sister Francis Idom of Nampa; and brother John (Renee) Croy of Post Falls, Idaho. Bob is survived by his three children, Kathy (Greg Kuzma) of Flagstaff, AZ; Elizabeth (Greg Young) of Bozeman, MT; and Brian of Chicago, IL. Along with grandchildren, Shawn, Charlie, and Emily. We are grateful to the loving support of the staff at Edgewood Spring Creek in Meridian, ID and Leonard Croys family, the late Doris Croy, and Bobs nephew and niece, John and Judy.
