Roberta Lee Vaughn, of Cottonwood, Arizona, and formerly Caldwell, Idaho, passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 92 and entered the presence of Jesus in Heaven.
Roberta was born on December 2, 1933, in Vona, CO, to Harry and Mildred (Johnson) Mackey. She grew up in the Denver, CO, area, graduating from Lakewood High School in 1951. She met Marshall Vaughn at Denver First Church of the Nazarene. They were married July 25, 1952, at Denver First Church and moved to attend college at Pasadena Nazarene College, now Point Loma Nazarene. They spent 66 years together until Marshall’s death in 2018. After a couple years in college, Marshall and Roberta took a part-time pastorate in the Desert Mountains of Southern California in a little town called Ansa. They were barely paid enough to cover the gas for the drive there and back each weekend. Roberta lived the life of service to the Lord as a Nazarene Church pastor’s wife and mother, being very supportive and involved with Marshall’s ministerial duties. Roberta often played the piano in services, taught Sunday School, led women’s Bible studies, and filled in wherever there was a need in the church. After graduation from PNC, Marshall and his bride took their first "official" Nazarene Church pastorate in Auburn, IL. After three years of ministry in Auburn, Marshall and Roberta moved to take the Nazarene Church pastorate in Dekalb, IL.
After subsequence pastoral assignments in Florence, CO, Delta, CO, and Minot, ND, Marshall and Roberta were then called to pastor Canyon Hill Church of the Nazarene in Caldwell, ID, from 1971 to 1981. After a very tough decision to leave the Canyon Hill church, they had a brief assignment in Yuma, AZ, before moving to the Colorado Springs Indian Heights Nazarene Church for six years. Their final assignment was at the First Church of the Nazarene in La Grande, OR. Deciding to retire in 1995, it was an easy decision to come back to Caldwell and more specifically their beloved Canyon Hill. Roberta is survived by her two sons, Randy (Carol) Vaughn of Cottonwood, AZ, and Garret (Carole) Vaughn of Nampa, ID; her two grandsons, Travis Vaughn of Cottonwood, AZ, and Kevin Vaughn of Minneapolis, MN; her two granddaughters, Amanda (Chris) Schmierer of Wilsonville, OR, and Kaylee Vaughn (Lindy) of Yelm, WA. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Duane (Carol) Vaughn of Payette, ID; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and many other "adopted" family members around the U.S. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Marshall; her parents, Harry and Mildred Mackey; her two sisters, Vivian Turner and Margaret Goodson, and younger brother Norman Mackey.
Services will be held March 20, 2026, at the Canyon Hill Church of the Nazarene, 903 N. Michigan Ave, Caldwell, ID at 2:00 pm under the direction of Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. An online guest book is available at www.nampafuneralhome.com
