Roger W. Stark of Star, Idaho, 84, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at home with family by his side.
He was born September 17, 1928 to Robert and Bertha Stark in Traer, Iowa.
Roger joined the Army and served from February 23, 1951 through February 2, 1953. After his service he returned to farming with his father. He joined the Brotherhood of FreeMasons onDecember 16, 1957. He continued farming in Traer, Iowa until November 1960 when they moved to Emmett, Idaho. In 1964 his family moved to Nampa, Idaho where he met his soulmate Marjorie Ott. They married on March 10, 1967. He and his father continued to farm in Nampa until 1974.
Roger and Marjorie retired from farming and bought Starks Owyhee Mobile Home Park in Boise, Idaho from 1974-1985. They completely retired in 1986 and moved to Star, Idaho in 1990.
Roger enjoyed going on fishing trips with his wife and they enjoyed spending quality time together at their cabin in Lowman, Idaho. They also loved vacationing in Reno, NV. They went on many adventures, but when they were home they loved playing on dart leagues with their friends and family. Roger and Marjorie loved playing pool and they spent many hours at the pool table. Roger enjoyed gardening and considered himself a master gardener and everyone went to him with their garden issues. He had a huge garden in Nampa, Idaho. Roger took pride in being a member of the Shriners. He truly loved sending his grandchildren to the Shriners circus every year.
Roger spent his last years enjoying all of his friends in Star, Idaho. He used to meet daily with the Star Geniuses for a meeting of the minds at the local Merc. He also hung out with friends at Sams Saloon to discuss and solve the Worlds Problems. Roger also had a soft side for hummingbirds. He kept the local hummingbirds well fed throughout the season and just loved watching them eat his special homemade hummingbird syrup.
Roger was loved and liked by many. Everyone will always remember his big smile and great stories that went with it.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Stark, his parents and his sister Roberta Bennett.
He is survived by his step daughter Billie Daniels (Star, Idaho), his grandchildren Shawnel Rayne and Corey Gillaspy, and great grandchildren Caleb Gillaspy and Jaycee and Caige Rayne (all ofNampa, Idaho); His niece Janis Jones (TN) and his nephew Pinto Bennett (Boise, Idaho). He is also survived by his stepchildren Ed Malkowski and Lois Zimmerman (both of WA).
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 404 12th Ave. So., Nampa. Burial will immediately follow with military rites at the StarCemetery. A viewing will be held from 11 to 1 prior to the services. Roger requested that everyone feel comfortable at his funeral and to dress casual. He wanted to be the one in the suit, as he would not be moving around.
