Rose M. Grunke, 92, of Nampa, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2014 at a Boise hospital. She was born on August 30, 1922 in Bolivar, Missouri the seventh child of eight children of Michael J. Divin and Rose Divin(Korn). She moved with her family to Jennings, Kansas at an early age and then to Nampa, in 1935 to escape the dust bowl of the midwest. She detested the smell and taste of dust the remainder of her life as she told stories of her mother wetting towels and placing them around doors and windows in an attempt to keep the blowing dust out of their home.
She attended the eighth grade at St. Paul's Catholic school before her family relocated to Melba, where she completed high school.
She married Lester Grunke in 1946 and they briefly farmed north of Star, before moving to Nampa where she lived in the same home until her death.
She was a child of the depression and she scrimped and saved to assure her sons graduated college as she firmly believed higher education was the key to a better life.
Later in life she worked at the S & H Green Stamp Redemption Center in Nampa, retiring as manager in the 1980s. She spent her remaining years enjoying walking, working in her yard and garden, and enjoiying time with her family, especially her grandsons. Her greatest joy was being with her family and sharing in their happiness.
She is survived by her sons Garry (Sharon) Grunke of Eagle and Kevin (Trish) Grunke of Star Ranch, her grandsons Philip Grunke and David (Jessica) Grunke and her great grandson Aiden, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters and her husband. The family wishes to thank mom's neighbors for their friendship, kindness, and assistance over the years. A special thank you is given to Barbara Martel. The family also wishes to thank the fine staff of St. Luke's Hospital in Boise for their understanding and care of our mother in her final days.
