Ruth Elizabeth Shaw McConnell passed away Friday evening August 16, 2013 after a long life lived to the fullest. Ruth was the first of eight children born to Herbert and L.C. Shaw on April 15, 1920 in May, Oklahoma. Ruth married the love of her life, Hugh McConnell on November 15, 1938 in Exeter, California. They moved to Oregon where they began their lives as farmers near Adrian, Oregon. In 1946, they purchased a 160 acre farm outside of Vale in the Willow Creek area where they began their family, Wayne, Beverly, and John. Ruth stayed busy as a housewife, mother and active member of the Willow Creek and Malheur County communities. In the Fall of 1956, Hugh, Ruth and the children moved to Salem, Oregon. In 1967 the family moved to Nampa where Ruth began her career with Idaho First National Bank, retiring in 1981. Hugh passed away in 1990. One of the great joys of Ruths life was community service. Ruth served on the Nampa Planning and Zoning Board all through the 1980s as well as being actively involved with the Womans Century Club, the Grange, the Salvation Army, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, Mercy Medical Center, Elks, Kiwanis, ABWA, the Canyon County Republican Party, Nampa Civic Center, Canyon County Historical Society, and Music Theatre of Idaho. Ruth also helped organize the activities for the Nampa Centennial Celebration. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents: Herbert and L.C. Shaw; husband Hugh McConnell; Her brothers; James and Silas Shaw and sister in law Marvis Shaw. Ruths greatest love was for her family, Ruth leaves behind her children Wayne (Darlene), Vale, OR, Beverly (Bill) Miller, Salt Lake City, UT and John (Lynn), Nampa. She was blessed with six grandsons: Britt (Katie) Miller, Lt. Cmdr. Alex McConnell, Robert (Vicki) McConnell, David (Heather) Miller, Michael McConnell, and Staff Sergeant Thomas McConnell; As well as 6 great-grand children, many nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters; Sam (Ruth) Shaw, Naomi Gould, Rachel Gilbert of Boise, ID., David Shaw of Squaw Valley, CA., Paul (Mickey) Shaw of Friant, CA. A memorial service will be held at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Ruths memory may be made to The Womens Century Club and Journeys Hospice of Nampa.
