Obituary

Mary Ruth Morcom passed into the loving arms of the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011 in her home in Nampa, Idaho surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Stephen and Charity Soper in Edgemont, South Dakota April 3, 1929. Her family moved to Willowcreek, Oregon in 1935. She attended Willowcreek Elementary and Vale High School. She married her love Robert L. Morcom on May 19, 1946. While in Willowcreek, She and Bob raised their five children on their dairy farm. She also lived in Ontario and Fruitland, working for the Malheur Housing Authority until her retirement. In January 2007, she remarried Robert and moved to Nampa to be closer to family. She enjoyed many hobbies including dancing, fishing and traveling. She also was an avid bowler and made many friendships during her league bowling years. She didnt give up the sport she loved until her 80th year. She was a fierce competitor and also enjoyed playing card games (actually winning games) a trait she passed on to her children and grand children. She also enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in their favorite sporting events for many years. Ruth is survived by her husband Robert L Morcom of Nampa, her children Melva Zellick, Nampa, Donna (Ray) Bixler, Nampa, Rob (Vicki) Morcom, Davenport Washington, John (Chris) Morcom, Boise, and Mike (Lisa) Morcom, Vale. Surviving grandchildren include Brad (Crystal) Zellick, Neil (Alyssa) Zellick, Chad (Jennifer) Miller, Amy (Eric) Hazen, Brian and Kevin Morcom, Mackenzie and Josh Morcom, and seven great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Joe Soper, Harold Soper, Donald Soper, Ella Kahn, Esther Hudson and Donna Pfannenstiel and numerous nieces and nephews including Sherry Baker, Rick Denham and Tom Denham. She is also survived by her best friend of many years Arlene Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Charity, five siblings and her granddaughter Stephanie Morcom. Ruth enjoyed life and felt blessed to have a family that loved and cherished her. There will be a memorial service at the Vale Christian Church, 450 "A" St. West, Vale, Or. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. The viewing will begin at 11:30 A.M. followed by services at 1:00 P.M. with internment at the Valley View Cemetery in Vale. The family will host a reception at the church for family and friends immediately following the internment. Services are under the direction of the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Fiorentino and Pam of MSTI in Nampa and Dr.Tim Hodges of Meridian. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Nampa MSTI.
