Obituary

Shirley Eileen (Gomer) Hunt was born April 5, 1930 in Redmond, Oregon. She was the second child of seven children (Marjorie, Shirley, Lenta, Howard, Gracie, and the twins; Gloria and Gladys) born to Emanuel and Lillie Gomer. In the second grade, Shirley moved to Idaho with her family and grew up on a 40 acre dairy farm on Ustick Road. Her days started early, milking cows by hand and doing chores. After graduating from Nampa High School in 1948, Shirley went to work for the Nampa Grainery. She then worked for First Security Bank for over thirty years in Nampa and grew to know many people in the community. She was a teller and loan officer, becoming Business Woman of the Year. Shirley shared, that in the 1950's she used to walk all alone from the bank to the Nampa Post Office each day with heavy bags of money to mail. No one escorted her as she carried thousands of dollars, all dressed up in high heels. Shirley met Don Hunt in 1949, and they were married for 59 years. They spent their weekends camping with friends, attending local dances, and playing cards until the sun came up. Don and Shirley built their log home by hand in Cascade, Idaho and enjoyed twenty years of retirement there along the lake. Shirley is survived by her daughters: Cyndi (Penny) Drake and Treva (Julee) Hunt. Shirley has three grandchildren and their families: Randi (Rebecca) Drake, Roman (Kimberly) Drake, and Nikki Drake. She also has 2 great granddaughters: Finley and Raven. A celebration of Life service will be held 1:00 P.M.
