Shirley Parkhurst Obituary Shirley Mae Parkhurst was born March 31, 1936 in Dixon, CA and was 2nd oldest of 7 children. Her and her family lived outside of Dixon and operated the Dixon Sanitary Dairy. In 1948, the dairy was sold and they moved into town. She attended grammar school in Dixon and graduated from Dixon High School in 1954.
After high school, she helped at the Home of Faith Childrens Home in Monticello, California for several years. She then began her career at Bank of America in Dixon, later transferring to Sacramento, CA. She retired in 1997 following 37 years of employment and was recognized for never taking a sick day.
She traveled extensively with many friends and family. She visited Israel, Europe and made 5 trips Hawaii. Oahu was her favorite island. Yosemite was also a favorite spot to visit.
She was a member of Arcade Baptist Church since moving to Sacramento. She was an excellent pianist, playing for many different groups, soloists and worship services. She worked at Arcade Church in the office for many years and taught young girls in Sunday school.
Music was an important part of Shirleys life. She began playing the piano in church at the age of 12. She played the Baritone in her high school band and played the accordion. She played with the handbell group at Arcade and added her alto singing voice in several choirs.
Shirley was an avid San Francisco Giants fan, attending many games throughout the years at Candlestick Park.
Shirley never married nor had children, but was a very dedicated and special aunt to her many nieces and nephews often times taking them on trips and special outings.
After being diagnosed with Parkinsons and macular degeneration, she moved to Nampa, Idaho to live with her sister, LaVerne. She lived in Idaho about 3 years.
From an early age Shirleys life was marked by strong family bonds, deep friendships and a core desire to serve the Lord.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Marie Parkhurst. Her surviving siblings: Brothers - Mervin (Luanne); Ron (Cynthia); David (Janet); Jim (Cathy) and sisters - Joanne (Jerry) Moore and LaVerne (Don Decd) Ogren.
She passed away on November 13, 2024 quietly in her sleep from the Parkinsons. She will be buried in Kohlerlawn Cemetery, Nampa, ID on December 4, 2024 at a 2 pm graveside service. A memorial service will be held at Arcade Church in Sacramento, CA on December 10th at 11 am.
