Obituary

Sula Wasbrough Obituary Sula Ann Moore Wasbrough was born in Nampa, Idaho on Nov. 3, 1941. After a short battle with cancer, she died at home in Nampa on April 7, 2022. Sula attended Eastside Elementary, Central Junior High and Nampa High School. After graduating from Nampa High, she attended Northwest Nazarene College and later Idaho State University. Sula worked in food service at Homestead Restaurant and later Saga Food Service at NNC. In 1963 and 1964 she worked in the dental office of Dr. J.R. Dean. In the mid-1960s, Sula moved to Seattle, Washington where she worked as a dental hygienist in the Queen Anne Hill area. Sula met William (Bill) Wasbrough, a young man from England, serving with the US Army at Fort Lewis. They dated for many months until his service was over, and he moved to Hawaii to help his parents. Sula later found a job with Western Airlines as a travel agent and relocated to the Bay Area. Bill had also moved to San Francisco and they re-connected. They soon got engaged. They married on June 17, 1967 in San Mateo, California. They lived in Berkeley while Bill completed his engineering degree. They often joked they were the only sober couple in town during those years. While Bill completed college at Cal Poly, Sula continued to work for Western Airlines. Upon graduation, Bill found a job with Colgate Palmolive, and Sula left her job. In 1973 Bills job took them to New Jersey. Their son Brad was born the next year. Sula looked after her new son, while helping organize and plan social functions for their friends and Bills work associates. The family relocated to Kansas City, Kansas in 1975. Sula continued to raise her son and tend to her house, while getting involved in her community. She loved bowling. She helped organize and run several bowling leagues, even working as a scorekeeper for the Professional Bowling Association (PBA) tour when it visited her town. She also took an active role in her local PTA, soon finding herself in a leadership position and eventually becoming president of the local board in 1985. Unfortunately, Bill and Sula grew apart during the 1980s. After a couple of years of marriage counseling, they separated in 1986, and divorced in 1989. Deciding she was tired of the Midwest and desiring a fresh start, Sula and Brad moved to West Linn, Oregon. There Sula worked for a few years as a secretary for hire, until finding herself with an insurance brokerage firm in Tigard. She worked there for several years, soon becoming office manager. Sulas parents, Sam and Dorothy Moore, moved to West Linn to be closer to Sula and her brothers family in the Portland area. After the death of her father in 1995, Sula and her mother returned to Nampa. Dorothys sister, Evelyn, also moved to Nampa and the three of them lived together for a number of years. After Evelyn moved to California, Sula and Dorothy moved into a new house built to Sulas specifications. Sula joined the Goicoechea Law Firm as the office manager and accountant. The firm later became Skaug Law. She retired in 2015. From a young age, Sula enjoyed sewing. She knitted countless baby blankets for family and friends. Her green thumb nurtured numerous plants in her homes sunroom. She cross-stitched and needle-pointed many pillows as well as the seat cushions for her dining room chairs. Sula was also an excellent cook. She treasured the dozens of cookbooks she collected. Sula also filled several notebooks with family history and genealogical records. She loved television, making a hobby of collecting some of her favorite series by recording them as they aired. She and her mother became long-distance fans of the Seattle Mariners and watched many of their games together on TV. Sula is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brad Wasbrough and Shannon Daviess of Beaverton, Oregon; her brother and sister-in-law Curry and Nancy Moore of Gresham, Oregon; three nieces--Dawn (Bob) Larson, Jennifer (Jonny) Green, Racheal Moore and her fianc Ian; one great-niece, three great-nephews, and a large extended family.
