Thelmas final wish was granted when she passed away on August 1 to join her beloved Red. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 9, at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Avenue South, Nampa. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. The fourth of eight children, Thelma Fern Patrick was born in Ordway, Colorado, on February 24, 1916 to Guy and Dora Patrick. When she was very young the family moved to Oxford, Nebraska, where she spent her rest of her youth. The Patrick family worked together to survive the depression and created a close bond that continued throughout their adulthood, which included, until recent years, yearly family reunions. Thelma graduated from Oxford High School in the class of l934. She was employed at the Oxford telephone office and was awarded the highly coveted VAIL award for working many extra hours as the telephone operator alerting local communities of the Platte River flood. At 20 years old, she fell for a handsome redhead at the local dance hall and found a dancing partner for life. She married Newell Alonzo "Red" Wade on December 2, 1936 in Long Island, Kansas. Two children were born to this partnership. Dianne Rae was born in Oxford on May 14, 1938 and Vernon Lee"Butch" was born in Nampa on December 22, 1939. They moved to Nampa in 1939, where she has resided since. Most of Thelmas life was devoted to raising her children and supporting her husbands community service, which included many years of entertaining the Snake River Stampede Rodeo guests. The center of her life was always her family; she loved spoiling her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cooking for large family gatherings. Many family newborns were gifted with her hand-embroidered quilts. Her fun sense of humor and love of life made her a great wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. Thelmas pastimes included playing bridge and golf and she was quite proud of her hole in one at the Broadmore Golf Course. She was a member of The Womens Century Club, United Methodist Church and Church Circle, Red Hat Society, Broadmore Country Club, Good Sams, and several bridge groups. Following Reds retirement, they enjoyed ten winters in Yuma, Arizona. In 1988 Red and Thelma moved into Silvercrest I, where they made many close friends who were very helpful and kind to Thelma during her aging years. Her health finally forced her into assisted living last fall. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Dora; her husband, Red; two sisters, Opal Clark and Vera Blauvelt; and three brothers, Dale, Leo and Vernon Patrick. She is survived by two sisters, Vesta Young, Boise, and Lois Harwick, Caldwell; her children, Dianne Farnworth (Gary) Ontario, Oregon and Vernon "Butch" Wade (Carolyn) Nampa; six grandchildren, Kerri Wade, and Julie Ipsen (Bruce) Nampa, Tony Fortik (Henrietta) Weiser, Lesli Cable (Terry) and Brooks Farnworth (Tawnni) Monmouth, Oregon and Patrick Farnworth (Kristen) Salem, Oregon; 9 great grandchildren: Franki and Kevin Cable, Zoe, Paige and Ike Farnworth, Ryan Wells, Gabriella Fortik, and Brett Ipsen; a special friend, Glenda Wade, as well as many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all of them. The family would like to thank staff at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab at Holly for their kindness and excellent care of Thelma during the last months of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
