Twila Benjamin Obituary Twila Marie Benjamin (1927-2023) was a beloved resident of Washington and Idaho. Born on July 19, 1927, in Ramah, El Paso County, Colorado. Twila passed away May 30, 2023, at her home in Nampa, Idaho, and was laid to rest June 9, 2023, in Royal Memorial Gardens in Royal City, Washington. Twila was the daughter of Ralph Eugene and Bertha (Cusic) Montgomery. Twila often joked that she 'went through Yale, and Princeton and graduated from Harvard,' which sounded prestigious but she was referring to the small towns in Idaho where she grew up.
Twila married William Hiram Benjamin on February 20, 1949, in Middleton, Idaho. Together, they moved to Royal City, Washington, in 1957, where they made their home, and raised their children. Unfortunately, William passed away in 1986 giving them only 37 years together.
Twila and William had seven children: William Jr. (married to Sarah), Eugene (married to Paula), Larry, Willa Braddock (married to Steve), James (married to Lisa), Glen, and Edith (married to Jason). Family was incredibly important to Twila, and she took great joy in her 25 grandchildren and 28 and counting great-grandchildren, two will arrive shortly.
The Church of the Nazarene held a special place in Twila's heart, and she dedicated many years to teaching Sunday School, and being a Caravan leader in the Royal City Church of the Nazarene where she was a charter member. She played an instrumental role in the establishment of the church and was actively engaged in its activities and ministries.
Twila had a special passion for Children's Bible Quizzing and took on a leadership role in this area while at Royal City. She dedicated her time and energy to help children learn and engage with the Bible through quizzing competitions. Her commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of young ones was evident in her involvement with this ministry.
As a charter member of the Royal City Church of the Nazarene, teaching Sunday School, leading a Caravan group and a leader in Children's Bible Quizzing, Twila left a lasting impact on the community and the lives of many individuals, both young and old. Her contributions to the church and her dedication to teaching children about the Bible will always be remembered and appreciated. Prior to the Covid pandemic, and being diagnosed with polymyositis, Twila faithfully attended Valley Shepherd Church of the Nazarene in Meridian Idaho.
Additionally, education played a significant role in her family's life, with Twila's children attending Royal City schools, and all graduated from Royal High School. All seven of her children attended at least one year at Northwest Nazarene College (now University) in Nampa, Idaho. Two of her children, Gene and Edith, continued all four years eventually graduating with a Bachelors Degree from NNC (now NNU), while other children transferred to other colleges or universities to complete their education.
While her children were in high school and pursuing higher education, Twila worked in the potato industry at Sun Fresh, Chef Reddy, and Carnation. In 1992, after her children left home, and her husband passed away, she retired from the supply department at Carnation in Othello, Washington, and relocated to Boise, Idaho, where she lived with her son James and assisted with his childcare business.
A few years after the childcare business closed, Twila Benjamin moved, and lived independently on a small acreage in Meridian, Idaho. Glen visited several times a week assisting her with different tasks that she needed assistance with. She had a dog, Princess, and a cat, Angel, and raised sheep and chickens on this small acreage until September 2020, when she was diagnosed with polymyositis, which affected her independence. Due to the progression of her illness, the decision was made to move to the new home she had purchased in Nampa, Idaho, where she could receive around-the-clock care and support. The move allowed her daughter, Willa, to give her the necessary assistance and attention she required.
Prior to her disease, Twila had a sense of adventure and enjoyed traveling extensively. She visited her son William several times in Alabama, explored Disneyworld with her grandchildren, journeyed to the Holy Land, and even climbed Machu Picchu in Peru with her daughter Edith. She also had the opportunity to go on several cruises with her son, James. Twila supported Answers in Genesis and was particularly interested in the construction of the Ark in Kentucky. She visited the Ark multiple times with her children, and attended pastoral seminars there with her son, Larry.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Benjamin, her parents, Ralph Eugene and Bertha Cusic Montgomery, her sister Yvonne Warn, and three grandchildren: Mark Braddock, Benjamin Braddock, and Mikaela Braddock.
Twila Benjamin was a remarkable woman who cherished her family, faith, and experiences. Her memory lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved her.
