Obituary

Vera Lorene Kester Evans completed a life marked by love, faith and service on December 28, 2014. She was born September 24, 1925 to Blanche and Amos Jones in Praire Du Sac, Wisconsin. Shortly after her birth she and her family moved to Idaho where she attended the Ustick School. She graduated from Boise High School and later earned her bachelors degree from Pacific College (now George Fox University) in Newburg, Oregon. In 1948 she married Kenneth Kester of Marcola, Oregon. Always an achiever, she chose to return to school in 1961 to complete a degree in Elementary Education. She was a caring and committed teacher. She loved to help children learn, whether they were her students, her grandchildren, or the children of friends. During her career and following retirement she volunteered countless hours to tutoring and to childrens work in her church. After the untimely death of her first husband she married George Gene Evans in 1986. The Evanses and Kesters embraced this expanded family relationship at every level. Vera welcomed this new role and delighted in adding the Evans children and grandchildren to her family. Her life is characterized by her faith, her teaching and her passion to use her hands for crafts and service. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothing for all her children and readily volunteering her skills to support others. She practiced hospitality and her home was always a place of warmth and acceptance. She relished her role as grandmother, opening her home every weekend to grandchildren and by informally adopting her other son, Bob Johnson, who joined the family as he was finishing High School. She is survived by her children Millie Kester Watkins (Charles)of Wenatchee WA, Jerry Kester (Sharon) of Olympia WA, Gary Evans (Maxeen) of Nampa, Karen Evans Lee of Concord CA, and Sheri Evans Vernor (Bill) of Spanaway WA, and by her 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands and her son David Kester. Vera lived out the Bibles words of Proverbs 31:27-28. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution in memory of Vera may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 601 16th Ave S., Nampa, Idaho 83651 for its missions World Evangelism Fund, or Trinity Pines Camp and Conference Center, 55 SW 5th Ave, Suite 100, Meridian, Idaho 83642.
